What to get before surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am fairly new to the forums. My surgery is scheduled for Feb 29th and I am very Excited! I start my pre-op diet tomorrow, so have Protein Shakes ready to go, but am looking for some advice on what to have on hand after surgery. What products do you all recommend to make things easier? Can't wait to start losing!!! Thanks!

Heating pad, Bubba keg, a couple of comfy cotton fasten-in-front leisure type bras (no underwire!), and a bunch of stuff to do while you recover, whether that is loading up your Kindle, your Netflix queue, new games to play, books of puzzles, knitting, etc.

Bra? Was I supposed to wear a bra Hahahaha. I stayed in bed mostly and slept and watched tv. The back of my bed raises to a sitting position. I was pajamas for several days just because. You need a place to sit your Water and pain meds. I felt great and didn't need anything else. Depending on what you can have right after surgery is what you should have. I was on Clear Liquids for two weeks. It went fast. sugar free Popsicles, broth, water, Isopure clear Protein Drinks.

Hi Bella - like you, I am still pre-surgery, in fact I am also on February 29th! I am laying in a good deal of my chosen Slim-Fast High Protein Advanced Nutrition shakes, in various flavors. Also have some boxes of low sodium/low fat chicken broth, vegetable broth, cream of Tomato, black bean, carrot-ginger and butternut squash Soup. Also have some prune juice (for constipation), Ginger-Aid tea (for nausea), and some liquid anti-acid/anti gas medicine. Plus some nice hot tea sachets, bottled unsweetened iced tea, spring Water, carrot juice and unsweetened apple sauce. The day before surgery, plan to get some fat-free milk, lowfat smooth greek yogurt, lite pudding and jellos. Finally I have a pill crusher, and have some Multivitamin Patches on order.

For taking to the hospital, have some fresh magazines, sweatpants, t-shirts and PJ-pants.

Slippers, robe, fuzzy (warm) socks, loose comfy pants, sweatpants, Chapstick , no jewelry, maybe a book just in case, slip on shoes to wear home, 1-2 extra t-shirts and my favorite zip up hoody. No electronics. My hubby can bring if I need to stay over 2nd night. All according to my SIL who had sleeve surgery 6 mo ago.

Definitely fuzzy warm socks & great slippers that you are well balanced in. I got a fabulous robe that I took to the hospital, but couldn't wear it b/c of my IV. I also took a neck pillow b/c it was uncomfortable to nestle my head w/ regular flat pillows when I had the drain in. My only other unusual item that worked GREAT for me was an eye pillow w/ wrap around strap b/c the lights in the hospital were kinda awful--but I have very light sensitive eyes. Good luck!!!

sugar free Jell-O was a godsend for me. Also, I had a hard time getting in enough Protein, and all the shakes were too thick for me to tolerate. I found that Isopure in a bottle from GNC helped A LOT those first few weeks. It's expensive, and not everyone likes it, but it worked for me.

Anyone have to bring their CPap machine to the hospital.? My surgeon wants me to bring it. What a pain... I can hardly wait until I am thin enough to be over the sleep apnea...

I've got a few boxes of shakes and a powdered canister to mix my own and add in stuff. I've got my Vitamins. I had to go with Centrum because the advantage bariatric made me sicker than a dog! I've got my Calcium and Iron, vitD and b12! I've got Isopure on order and just need the chicken broths and beef broths. I'm ready! I'm looking at a surgery date at the end of March or beginning of April!

I'm in a Facebook group with a bunch of people who had surgery in September. All of us had problems drinking anything hot or cold for awhile. Room temp was the way to go, with the exception of Jello or sugar free Popsicles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
