Just a question on type of surgery

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery on the 9th. I had the RNY, but mine was open. Did the rest of you have yours done laparoscopically? With the RNY, they repaired a hiatal hernia repair and removed my gall bladder. I feel like the pain won't ever stop.

I was lap RNY with a hernia repair. Use the pain meds, don't be a hero.

Hello @@cindilew (cuuute name!)

I feel so much for you right now!! I have had an ongoing pain issue since last Saturday. When I read your post I cried and felt moved. If I could send the cure, it would already be there [emoji56]!

Yes, as posted above, use your meds, talk often to your care provider, keep ahead of the pain if you can. Drink, rest, never stop believing this is temporary. It is. This pain will come to an end! It will take time-and that's the hard truth-but you will be so much better and so much healthier! A rotten gallbladder can kill you as an appendix can!

I had a lap-surgery, but we signed consent forms stating it was surgeons decision based on findings at time of surgery and if needed for safety. I'm positive your pain exceeds what I have dealt with. Only you know how you feel [emoji51]. God bless you and give you the guts everyday to get up, get it done, and move past another day!! Don't forget you're a WINNER! You're on the LOSERS BENCH now baby!! That ain't stopping for anything [emoji2][emoji106][emoji106][emoji108][emoji108][emoji171][emoji178][emoji171][emoji178]

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
