I'll be at the hospital at 7am. Not really nervous. Just hungry, the clear liquid diet is horrible. But I've lost 3 pounds in one day so that's a plus.

My surgery went well. No complications, I've been able to sip about 10 oz of Water in about 3 and a half hours. I haven't taken any oral pain med since being moved to a room. I've been burping like crazy though. I might actually be able to go home.

My surgery went smoothly but I am in a great deal of pain. Nothing to eat or drink today for me. I have an upper gi at 5 am to make sure there is no leak.

Wow Ashleyt26 that is great progress! You Are So Lucky. My recovery is just OK. I have found my one saving grace tonight tho. Doing laps around the surgery unit. Helps with the gas build so much

Walking definitely helps with the gas, I also noticed when I would take a small sip of Water I would burp which helped as well. As of this morning all my gas pain in gone. My largest incision is a lot more tender today than yesterday. And I have decided taking crushed Vitamins is really nasty, but so far I've been able to keep everything down. I also slept almost all night, with a few exceptions of having to use the restroom.

I struggled yesterday, so they kept me an extra day. Should be going home shortly. Definitely didn't enjoy the pain and nausea, but today has been good so far! Congratulations everyone!!!

I am home. The drastic difference in pain I had the past two days is crazy! I'm finally passing gas. I think I did pretty good with getting fluids in. Not 64 Oz though. I'm definitely gonna try harder tomorrow. But I am definitely still very weak. How people go to work like a week after surgery beats me. I'm taking 5 weeks off.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
