Vitamins. Gummies, chewables, other?

Recommended Posts

So I'm scheduled for March 14th and am steadily getting all of my Pre op and post op needs together. I'm concerned about the Vitamins I've chosen. They're ALL gummy vitamins except Biotin. I'm just concerned that the carbs and sugar content will throw my progress off. I was planning on switching to pills if I could once all the gummies were gone. I just want this to be successful. I'd prefer to not be held back because I chose the wrong vitamins.

Which surgery are you having? My understanding is that the gummies don't have decent values of the Vitamins required, nor will you be able to tolerate the "gummie" right after. My understanding if you are having RNY that gummies are off limits forever. I take chewables and soft chews.

I'm having the gastric sleeve. I'm definitely concerned about whether or not I'll be able to tolerate them. That's quite a bit of money wasted, at least for me anyway. I added it up this morning and it's 16g carbs and 13g sugar from the gummies alone.

Take them pre op. Most gummies are not adequate for sleevers. I took chewables for the first two years and can take pills or chewables now. My Nut recommends Bariatric Fusion.

I had a terrible time with the Vitamins. I didn't do the gummies but you should be ok taking them pre-op. Some of them are expensive. I take Celebrate - chewable...because I get my Iron in it and I only have to take two of them. I was taking the Celebrate pills, but sometimes if I didn't take them immediately after eating they would make me wicked nauseous to the point where I threw them up.

Also - don't make big investments pre-surgery....your tastebuds will change. I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Protein shakes...now I can't stand the taste.

I was told that gummies weren't good because they don't break down well or go through the stomach smoothly. During my 2 weeks Pre-op I was told not to take any Vitamin supplements. I just got chewables or soft gel capsules

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
