Castle-you must be at the hospital already! Good Luck! My surgery has been moved up to 10:30. I'm getting the kids ready for school. I didn't realize I was supposed to be on Clear Liquids yesterday until Jennifer told me at 1PM. I'm starving now and weak. But I can't wait til I get my band! Thanks for all the support ladies! See you in bandland!:whoo:

I think we wont see them back on for a while until they are up and running again. I got my paper work in and the doc faxed in my referral form today. I have my appointment with Dr. Fowler on 9/7. I asked Jennifer if i could attend the support group on the night of the 5th and she said yes. If my baby sitting goes well, i will see some of you ladies there.

Aloha Ladies,

I have spent the day laying around and taking little walks up the street. I have been sipping Water, boulion, Jello, and Protein Shakes. Pain? Not too bad, the left shoulder area is sore. Afterall, this is major stuff so I had expected some pain. The whole team at the hospital was great and I was able to ge to know a fellow banster really well in the hospital. Most of my family is under the impression I went to get my hiatal hernial repaired, others know the full story about the band. I have showered twice and covered the stitches up with saran wrap & tape. I have had a few sips of the paid medication. I tried Decaf coffee today and that was yucky, I have a feeling some of my old favorites will not be so now. That will be a good thing. Hang in there everyone whereever you are on your journey. Mahalo for all the support & thoughts for the 15th, so glad that part is over...on to the next steps:)

Great to hear from my Hawaii friends too! Yes, all seems too good, I am almost worried. When I sip and then swallow, I don't notice anything different. Hmmm. I woke up with the sore left shoulder pain again and walked up my street. Its now gone. I am having my muscle milk with an extra shot of whey Protein Shake that I add ice to in a blender right now as I cruise the lap band site a bit. The incisions look good, a bit bruised around the bandages. My stomach is definitely swollen, I feel larger than ever which is annoying but this must mean I am getting ready for all the gas...I am prepared with gas x. I'm gonna add some different kinds of creamy Soups today. I am thinking a lot about the future as a thinner, healther person. This gives me strength. i am so glad that some of will re-unite at the support meeting!

Aloha, Kathleen

I was fussing with my daughter yesterday about her weight. This is my runaway who has been home nearly a month now. She has ballooned to 137lbs from 112lbs and has her belly hanging over and out of her shirt. I told her when i was her age, i didnt have a belly or walk about with shorter than ususal shirts. She said well mom we need to work out.. i agreed with her.. but i told her she must lift the pants and pull down the shirts.. what's up with the kids wearing these kind of clothes. Mind you, i didnt buy it for her and told her its not in standards. I want to be 137 again!!!! waaaaaaaaa

Muscle Milk (light kind) hs 20 grams of Protein and 0 carbs. They have it on sale at Longs right now for 4.99 for a 4 pack. The other high Protein Drink is Isopure which is like a koolaid drink with different flavors. (GNC for 3.99) The team at Castle Hospital really push the message that its all about the protein...which seems to be consistent with everyone in bandland. I want to prevent feeling weak. I will be going back to work next week. Take care & I am so glad you got your referral in...good job, you are getting closer...yeah!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
