No one is scare about flying after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I plan to be "sleeved" in Mexico. Not really scare about surgery, mostly about flying back home and things I have read online about blood clotting and stuff.

I'm getting VSG in Mexico tomorrow and traveling from Nova Scotia Canada. I will be returning on Saturday morning. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes. My friend did it and said she was just fine

Ask the Dr about Lovenox Blood clotting injections. I didn't fly anywhere and I have to take them for 30 days after surgery.

I had mine done in Prague and flew back to the UK after with no problems. I was given injections in my stomach every day I was there post surgery to stop blood clots, but didn't have to take any injections home to do myself.

@@jademb1023 Good Luck tomorrow, and I would love to hear back from you! who is your Dr.?

@@perforce How long was the flight from Prague to UK. My flight back home will be about 5 hrs

@@ssflbelle I will make sure to ask the Doctor. I will be given a blood thinner, not sure if it will suffice. I don't think I suffer from blood clots, but I think is a very important topic that I haven't read people talk about.

@@Gmantrek I have never had any blood clots either so imagine my surprise when I was told every one of the WL patients have to do this just to prevent the possibility of getting one.

I was given a blood thinner periop and compression stockings to wear on the plane. I walked all over the airport before my flight and was told to walk the aisles if my flight was longer than an hour. No problems.

If it makes you feel any better, I have been participating on 3 different WLS forums for 3 years and have never read a single post about someone returning from surgery in Mexico and getting a blood clot.

I had to make a change in Paris because I was flying to Birmingham, each flight was just over an hour, but with the on Necton time it was about 3 and a half hours.

I'm doing Mexico but luckily I have a friend that lives only 2 hours from San Diego by airplane - so I'm flying back to her place to recoveryfor a few days before the long flight back to my end of the country - plus it gives me a few days to spend with her. Win- win situation I think

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
