To do list : 7 days preop!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

My RNY surgery date is set for Feb 17th! I've been feeling nervous and excited but I want to ask what preparations people made pre op for surgery either around the house or in your room.

Basically, Any tips and tricks that you did pre-op that made for a smoother post op transition would be appreciated!!

????

I didn't really do much beyond following the pre-op diet. I did spend a great deal of time soaking up these forums in the weeks before surgery and reading/re-reading/re-reading again all the info my doc provided.

Having someone there the first couple of days at home was probably what I was most thankful for. My parents came down to Texas from Michigan and took care of our 4 kids, so my wife was able to be my nurse. Having someone to get/give out prescriptions, remind you to get up and walk, make sure you are getting in your fluids, etc.

I would also advise to make sure you have something to measure out small servings of Water... disposable dixie cups will even work. And something to keep track of your water/protein intake... smartphone, pen/paper, etc.

Most importantly, somewhere comfortable to sleep those first few days (you will be doing a lot of it) and books or a charged ipad/smartphone with a netflix subscription.

gas-x strips, a heating pad, and perhaps a recliner or couch to sleep on, as getting up and going back down into a sleeping position are going to be difficult for the first few days. I slept in our recliner for the first week or so, then was able to move back to my bed. Good luck! :)

I also followed the pre-op diet as far as preparation. No real changes around the house other than adding a couple extra pillows to the bed.

Oh, I did stock up on fluids, broth, and liquid Protein for the 1 wk post op diet and made sure I had my Vitamins ready to start after coming home from surgery.

Good to read all these positive comments. I'm set for the 23rd of this month and I'm headed into a two week liquid diet. Unjury Protein, organic cream Soups, broth, crystal light, light n fit dannon greek yogurt and my vitties, im pretty much set on prep. Just gotta wait this out and then it really starts! Good luck to you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
