I'm 6 days post op. Today I went to the grocery store to walk a little and get foods for the next phase. I became very fatigued and nauseous. They thought of food is making no me nauseous. Is that normal? I now have myself scared to eat. I'm on straight liquids right now. I ate sugar free Jello the other day and ended up with diarrhea for about 18 hours. Tomorrow I start pudding and creamy Soups plus Vitamins. Any thoughts?

Be very cautious if the nausea doesn't go away I would follow up with my Dr. I thought it was normal when I felt that way. Nausea and weak @week 3...ended up being sepsis due to a small leak.....if you don't feel right seek help...

It is more likely that your weakness and nausea are dehydration. Are you getting all of the liquids you should be at this point?

That first week can be really rough and getting dehydrated is a vicious circle. Also diarrhea is very common during the liquid phase s weaned ab make your dehydration worse.

Make sure to keep your blood pressure monitored, too.

I found in those early weeks mine was running low for the first time in my adult life. Weight loss plus my normal daily meds.

The meds were adjusted....cut in half. I felt almost immediately better.

Easy to get dehydrated, too. Always have a bottle of Water within reach !!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
