Take something for dry mouth (a mouth spray or gel) and some wet wipes with you. I couldn't shower for a day or two after and wet wipes made life much easier. I also got some pyjamas and some joggers to go home with that have that yoga style 'roll top' waistband? Very comfortable and it means you can roll the waist back so it's not resting on your incisions. Sainsbury's do some pairs that are comfy and quite cheap, other supermarkets may do too.

I leave hospital tomorrow, stay in a hotel for a night and fly back on Monday.

I have some Vitamin sprays for at home, but actually the hospital has been giving me my acid blocker in pill form, as well as my sleeping pill, so as long as it's not too big and you're careful not to gulp Water to swallow them, it seems to be fine? I got some great travel toiletries from Sainsbury's because air france charges for checked luggage so I didn't want to be check anything in, but it meant I could only have liquids in that clear plastic bag so I had to downsize.

Depending on if you're robbie or kaitlyn you may want to bring sanitary pads and tampons, surgery can mess with your cycle so it shows up unexpectedly. I was expecting mine, but had to wear a tampon in surgery. If you're robbie, sorry for the TMI.

I finished my last work contract just before the new year and I decided not to look for a new one until after I had done this. I didn't want to put the pressure of long haul travel on myself until I was comfortable with solid food etc. Of course, now I may be going back into education so it's moot, but I'm not working right now.

Boots have small ones as well, but sainsbury's were good for travel sized. They also sold empty travel sized containers for about 50p each if you wanted to fill them with your regular stuff from home. The spray I found on Amazon, my surgery company suggested it. After I'm done I'll just go back to pills though now I know I can take them with no trouble. I've never seen biotine (hair and nail) in chewable so you may just have to wait until you're ok with pills. The tesco brand mulitvitamin has it in, but I'm not sure if the levels would be high enough for you.

I'm not sure as to your hotel or hospital, you'll have to check what they say. If it's hotel check that they know you are checking in late so they don't think you're a no-show.

When I started preop I was 122kg (19.2 stone) so I have a good 60-ish kg to lose (9.4st-sh). You can follow it on my tracker as I make progress (hopefully).

With the work thing, even if I worked in the UK it wasn't so much the pain I was worried about as the fact that you frequently have no energy until you hit solid food, so I thought lasting the day at work might be too challenging. Everyone reacts differently though.

I use my fitness pal right now, I like the fact that it has an app and you can scan barcodes rather than enter every food, but it will refuse to close out your day (post to your timeline) if you are under 1000 calories, which is annoying me a bit. I'd like a good tracker specialised for bariatric patients if I can find one, but if not MFP tells me my grams for my nutrients and that will do.

Hi there! I'm in USA. I get my chewable Biotin from costco. Try Amazon if you don't have one. I wasn't allowed Vitamins until the one month point of healing. I'm curious if you are having the surgery without the big incision? Some of the European posts talk about incision drains. I have 5 inch long incision scars on my belly. One is in my belly button. They closed them with surgical glue. I woke up with no stitches, no bloody oozing and no bandages. It was pretty amazing.

Best wishes on your surgery.

I had stitches and a drain, but big incision (the one they took the stomach from) is about 2-3 inches long, the other 3 are quite little.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
