Post-surgery pain?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I'm a newbie here. My surgery is set for Feb 16. I'm wondering what I will feel like waking up from surgery. I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago laproscopically, so I know about the gas they fill you up with...

Is there much pain, though? I know they will have me up and walking hours after surgery, and I'd just like a heads-up on how others felt.

Thanks! :-)

Thanks so much for asking this question, that's one thing I've been loving about this site is that people ask every question I've thought to ask and many that never occurred to me.

I'm a huge baby as well as a recovering drug addict so I'm a bit concerned about what kind of pain they usually send one home with, anyone know? Bt it's arranged for my roommate to pick up, hold and dispense any pain meds.

I had my gall bladder out in the summer of 2014 and my RNY in the summer of 2015, and I can say without a doubt the gall bladder hurt more, and healed slower. Externally, at least. I'm told internally, it can take up to a year to heal from RNY. I'm at 5.5 months and it's like I didn't even have surgery in terms of pain.

I had RNY October 26, 2015. In my case, I had much less pain than I expected. The day of surgery was bad, but a lot of that pain was from gas. Day two on wasn't that bad. And I have a very low tolerance for pain and I'm a total wimp about it. Overall, much less pain than I anticipated. I had discomfort for two weeks or so from gas, but tolerable from a self-confessed wimp.

I remember waking up from the gallbladder surgery in a lot of pain from the gas. It was horrible. It was such a relief when I was able to get rid of some, but so embarrassing!!

it seems to vary a lot between people, but I really had no pain at all. I felt nauseous the first day and my abs were pretty sore for about a week (making it a challenge to get out of bed, walk, etc), but that's about it. They sent me home with something for pain, but I never even opened it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
