I can't stop eating after my 1st fill ... help!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Its been awhile.. My surgery was performed on May 29. Post-surgery I was 209 pounds. I am now 172 pounds. I had my first fill on July 12. I thought that the fill would keep me from eating as much.. but I am eating... whats wrong with me? Am I being too gready.. I am really frustrated and becoming depressed by this whole thing and need some feedback from someone to tell me what I'm doing wrong.. I am in desperate need of some advice on what to do! I am scheduled to see my surgeon on August 3rd.. :help:

Don't feel alone. Me too. I've had 2 fills and the last week I have been knawing my leg off. Hanging on by my fingernails till I go in for another fill tomorrow morning. You may not be doing anything wrong. Keep the Protein up, keep up liquids. You'll feel much better on the 3rd....and I think I will feel much better tomorrow!

Do they fill you using a flouroscope? That seems to be much more accurate for getting a good fill (my first was sans scope, the second was with scope).

It seems like you are doing well! You are losing the weight so I wouldn't worry about it too much. I did not really feel restricted until I had my second fill. Maybe you need another fill if you feel like you are eating out of control. I wish I was having rapid results like you!

Ummm, I think you should be looking at this in a positive way. You are doing amazing. 209 to 172 in exactly 2 months? I wouldn't necessarily be complaining right now. You are doing great.

Hi Jee,

Don't worry. My gosh you have lost A LOT!!!

You need another fill is all.

No big deal.

Relax.

You are good!!!

If you want to jump start your restriction level (if it is filled enough to do that), I have found a trick that really works for me.

I go on a 2 day low cal clear liquid fast. The only solid food I eat are 12 raw almonds each day.

I drink the clear Protein drink from GNC to curb appitite. I think it's called Isolean or something like that. I keep the callorie intake to about 5oo.

Fatsing is good for your body every once in a while and it really makes a tired band start working again.

my surgery was July 9th, and I can't wait for my first fill. I just spent some time journaling and have spent a lot of time the past couple of days contemplating. What I decided I have to remember is that the band is a tool. I still have to learn and do all the head stuff. I lack discipline. That is probably why I was fat in the first place. I need to, one day at a time, say no to the urges to eat when I am not hungry. We can do this. We just can't expect the band to be the "quick fix".

Thanks for sharing. It helps me realize I am not alone.

how do u know when it's time for a fill, i just completed two weeks today!

When you start feeling like you can eat more than a half of a cup at a time (solids) it is time for a fill. Your stomch swells from the surgery so even though most people have no Fluid in their band at first you feel restricted in your eating. Most doctor's amke you wait at least 4 weeks before you can get your first fill. Just to warn you, it takes some people 2-4 fills to get it right. I just had my third fill and hopefully I will be on my way to better weight loss now. Good luck to you!

I had my first fill yesterday. The nurse was holding my hand like I was an old lady. It did not hurt one bit. They put something on it to numb it and then a slight stick. I never felt a thing. I got 1 CC. Dr. told me that I may nor may not fill restriction after the first fill and that is normal. He said they don't like to do more than that because your stomach is still healing and it can cause erosion if it is filled too much. The next time I go in he said I get 1 more CC. Last night I didn't notice anything like I did when I first came home from the hospital. Today - I am just trying to be careful and watch what and HOW MUCH I eat.... so I can let this tool work for me. I feel fuller faster than I had been for the last week or so.

I have lost 30 pds and was disappointed in the lack of weight loss. He said I had done terrific and they feel good if Lap band people lose 50 in a year....So I guess I was expecting wait loss like the gastric bypass folks where it seems to melt away. I need to talk with the nutritionist to get some new ideas. I was supposed to meet with her two weeks ago but she went to Italy and I went on vacation....so I'm behind the 8 ball on that.

Carlotta

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
