1 week post-op

Recommended Posts

I have reached my one week post op mark and it's crazy how much my life has changed. My weight on the day of surgery (1-22) was 208 I am now 207. A total of 11 lbs down in one week. ????

My body:

*I am still very exhausted from surgery. I do walk a lot but I have to coach myself a great deal before I get up and move.

*Pain is still a issue however I stopped taking my pain pills three days ago. I don't like how strong the pills are so I either just take some OTC Tylenol or just deal with it. The shoulder pain is the worse and I'm still having pain when Fluid reaches my stomach.

*Cold feet is now a new issue. Never had cold feet before but every single day and night since surgery my feet are freezing. Yesterday I started using a heating pad on my feet to keep them warm.

*My arms seem to go numb after laying on them for a few minutes. I am constantly adjusting myself when laying down.

*Lastly, the feeling that I'm hungry is becoming stronger every day. Today was really bad. I was almost at the point of crying because I felt so hungry but a few ounces of my Protein shake and I was better.

Every day that I am successful with this life long diet is such a inspiration. It proves that my desire to be healthy is greater than my need for food. If I can do it you can do it too!! Good luck everyone!! ????

Keep up the good work!

I am 4 days post op and really feeling the hunger pains too. I was told it could be acid, but I am on an acid reducer, so not sure.

My arms have been going numb too! That is so weird. I thought it was just because I have been sleeping on the couch and propping myself up in strange ways though.

The trapped air in the shoulder was a nuisance for me as well. Heating pads in those achy areas helped alleviate it. I recall using one for my tummy and one for my back. I cannot pin point when it exactly went away, but I was 2-3 weeks out. I remember that I began walking/running (very slowly) at the track around week four. At that point I felt the shoulder pain (well, at the point not pain, but more of a feeling of pressure) every time a ran. That lasted a couple of weeks.

The good news...it WILL go away! I love your optimism. Most people are not this optimistic at one week post-op (I called it my hell week). Keep it up and congratulations on coming over to the sleeved side!!!

Oh my I'm glad you commented! I now know someone I can come to for advice (if that's okay). Thanks for letting us know this will be better soon. My nightmare days were day 1 & 2 in the hospital. Once I came home every day has been better than the one before. ????

It's day 6 for me and I'm also feeling hunger which is disappointing but hey I'll roll with the punches!

Tomorrow I start the full liquids diet. Never have I looked forward to runny oatmeal like I am now!!!

I miss junk food - I'm not going to lie but the toll it took on my body and life isn't worth it. Now if my cravings would just get in line then I'd be feeling better. ????

Keep at it everyone!!

I forgot to add I have seriously considered getting bacon cheeseburger, taking one bite chewing and spitting it out. I won't but I've thought about it ????.

Why are the cravings for fat so strong!? Ughhhhhhhhhh

ChavezMommy the cravings are bad. I've found that I can crave something so bad but once confronted face to face with that food I don't want it anymore. I took my mom and daughter out for hibachi. I wanted the rice & steak dinner soooo bad but once everyones food came and I just ordered onion Soup. Once I started sipping I no longer wanted what they were eating. I was satisfied and proud of myself for sticking with my diet.

My mom is not a big supporter of anything I do so its a very good feeling to go out and not get swayed to eating the bad stuff.

@@storibrown I'm 2 weeks post! Congratulations on this chapter of your life girl!!

I have the cold feet issue as well! It's cause we are losing weight! fuzzy socks are my new bff.

I had the arms falling asleep issue in the hospital but not since I've been home, I just laid on back until recently I can lay on my side (:

I find I don't feel hungry at all if I sip Protein Shake all day instead of just at meal times.

I only had pain when fluids hit my stomach if they were too hot or too cold.

Walk walk walk walk, walking will get all the air/gas out and that shoulder pain will go away.

I started at 280 and today I hit 250!! I'm so happy! & Monday I can start puréed food ????

@@chavezmommy DO NOT DO IT.

I thought way too many times about getting something, chewing it, spitting it out. Don't! For one, your body gets most satisfaction from swallowing. Secondly, you are way stronger than that girl! You got this! When I was really missing food like Pasta and bread I posted on here about it and someone wrote me the most comforting post ( I'll post it as a quote it after this post!) you're body wants comfort food, it's scared. I also had a girl post about how she DID break down and eat, and it wasn't worth it. She said it wasn't even as good as it seemed to be before, you're mind is idealizing this cheeseburger to be more and more grand than it really is. You'll just be disappointed and upset with yourself.

Anyways, don't do it! You've come too far! It's just a little head hunger ????

You got this!

Here is the words of comfort I was referring to, hope they hit someone else the way they did me ❤️

Thanks Kristen! Very insightful!

I think food for me is a treat. It's a quick fix fun thing to enjoy. I think it's because I nor my family have vacations or hobbies. The kids have activities and school and hubby and I both work but I think I'm bored and want some fun injected into our lives. Maybe it's regular vacations (will require budgeting) and certainly when I get healthy enough we will be biking, skiing etc.

Hmmm I need to get to the root of this.

Thanks for the advice. ????

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
