I just started this journey last week. Going to Dr's checking off the list of requirements. Anyone with Cigna could give me some insight of their experience would be truly appreciative.

You might want to check under insurance and financing. I have found some stuff within that area.

Hi, I have Cigna too. I'm right at the start of the process with the three month weight watchers under a registered dietitian. I'd love to know how you are getting on.

It seems Cigna is the least frequently used insurance here- I might be wrong tho!

I had Cigna and they covered my surgery. They told me when I initially called that some of their plans do and some of their plans don't, so you will have to check YOUR specific plan. IF your plan does cover WLS, they can provide you with their requirements in writing, but here is the one I referred to - https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf

Just be careful of the 3 months requirement. The > than 89 days with no appointments less than 25 days and no more than 30 can not be achieved unless your doctor/dietitian is open on a weekend day. You might be lucky but I tried to figure out how to schedule appointments I am looking at 105 to 108 days.,. In the overall scheme is not that big of deall

Hi Adrianna,

Thanks for the tips about the >89 days requirement. Where or on what page on the policy document did you get the info on the appointments being no less than 25 days apart? Mine only says the appointments have to be at least monthly so I'm starting to think I missed something.

i don't remember where I read that but It was something along the line of how they considered a monthly visit. It is similar to how frequency prescription and be refilled.

I have Cigna and everything went very smoothly. After I met all my requirements it only took two days for them to approve my surgery. Good luck everyone!

So Miffy are you saying after your 3rd weigh in, the 4th weigh in has to be 25 days later to meet the 89 days required by Cigna?

The thing about it is what does Cigna consider monthly. That would be 25 to 30 days... To meet the >89. Days your appointment would need to be every 30 days which is logistically impossible unless your doctor has hours on Saturday... It does require 4 weigh ins past initial visit that are no earlier than 25 days than the last one and no more than 30 days.... Yes based on what I read you could schedule appointments 25 days and have the guideline met in 101 days.... I love doing number analysis...I know it is a little weird but I hate when things are presented with a false facade... So I do like to dig in...

With mine, they counted my first visit as 1st visit. And then I had to take at least 89 days to get in 3 more appts which were 25 to 30 days apart. My first visit was Jan 31. My last visit was April 30. There were 2 appts in between at the end of Feb and the end of March. My surgery was approved in less than 24 hours.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
