Let's talk about crap (BM's that is)

Recommended Posts

I am two weeks post op today, and I have been on the puree stage for one week. I have mostly been eating canned chicken, canned tuna and re-fried Beans on top of my usual Protein shakes to get up to my 60G goal of Protein. My question, is it normal to have like 4 bowel movements a day? I feel like every time I eat 2 ounces of food I need to go have a BM. Between that and urinating from the Water I feel like I live in the bathroom lately. <_<

Yes. I was loosey goosey until I got on to soft foods. Then I had a total reverse to the worst Constipation I have ever had in my life. It was like pushing a watermelon through a straw. Be prepared for it by having Miralax, stool softeners, Smooth Move Tea.....whatever on hand. You can find many links to that topic on this forum.

Now that sounds like fun...

I was on all liquid for three days and had nothing but diarrhea. I then switched to Protein for 4 days and had somewhat normal BM's. Now on the Puree stage I seem to have a lot of gas with my BM. Not to sound crude, but I certainly don't trust a fart at this time.

I had to laugh on this one. I have a little irritable bowel most of the time and I seldom "trust a fart"

Yep. And once you get to solids you'll feel like you can never go. I finally at 6 weeks post op gave up and I now take a colace every morning as part of my Vitamin lineup. I never want to let myself get backed up like that again!! It was horrible.

Should I be concerned that I am 9 days post op and have yet to have a BM at all? Just starting full liquids. I have no pain at all which is why I wasn't worried, but now I am thinking I should be.

Just watch if you stop going, yikes. Iv never had problems in this area and gulp ended up with a hemorrhoid, approx the size of Texas. I am taking Dulcolax every 3 days just to keep things going through soft foods and hopefully on. Doctor said it was normal. I don't like this part of normal.

I had a post op visit today and the surgeon sounded pretty confident that my stools will change multiple times, as I heal and change my diet. Yippie!

when you get to the rush hour traffic jam, just remember the 3 F's;fiber, Fluid. and fitness. the more you move, the more you "move".

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
