STALL! HELP I need advice

Recommended Posts

I had surgery mid December and lost 30 pounds within the first 2.5 weeks. In the last week my weight has stayed the same or gone up a 1/2 pound. I know everyone speaks of stalls, but I was really hoping it would not happen to me. I am so scared that I will not lose any more weight and its getting frustrated that I am eating very little and following the plan but the scale is not moving. I know I need to get more Protein in because I really detest all of the protein supplement options. But I have been drinking at least 1 Protein Shake a day. I am not hungry so I have to force myself to drink the shakes. If I add in the second protein shake will that really be the difference? Even though I am then adding in more calories and the nasty artificial sweeteners? Someone please tell me that the scale will start dropping again!

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the weight loss process. If you plan to lose a lot of weight you will stall. No one can avoid stalling. Stalls are important to weight loss. Most of us experience our first stall about three weeks after surgery.

That said, you have got to get in all of your Protein and fluids. Not getting enough of either will interfere with both healing and weight loss. You may not resume losing until you get enough Protein and Water because you are starving your body of necessary nutrients.

Embrace the Stall!

I have noticed that most posters who write in with topics like this invariably just don't want to do EXACTLY what they tell us to do. I guess I am just so afraid of screwing up up that I'm doing everything they say to the letter. Like my aunt use to say when we''d complain about her horrible cooking, "Oh that's fine, it's okay that you don't like it, just EAT IT....!" She was a charmer...

not eating can be just as detrimental as eating too much in terms of losing weight. Also... you lost almost 2 pounds a day for the first couple weeks. Your body is probably just going a little insane, thinking you're starving to death and dying, and is trying to preserve what fat stores you have. Just keep up with your Water, Protein, and Vitamins, and you WILL start losing again. Just have to be patient. In a couple months the stalls with have meant nothing because you will catch up. I mean, you've lost 30 pounds in less than 30 days. That is NOT normal for our bodies, so it makes sense that they would need a little break every now and then. But you really, REALLY have to keep up with getting food and water into you. It's vital for your health, and that's the whole reason you had surgery in the first place. Don't stress! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
