Just out of curiosity what would make you lean more towards roux en y verses the sleeve?

I'm pre-op. I've met with Psych, Nut, each once. Had my EKG and EGD, about to do a Metabolic test on Tuesday. I need to complete one more Phych aptmt and 2 more Nut aptmt and complete a total of 6 months "physician assisted weight loss" which started beginning of May. Hoping for Lat Oct or Early November surgery date. Highest: 290. Current 280. Goal weight 150, though I'd be satisfied at 175. I'm 5'6. Leaning toward RNY, but still considering sleeve. No co-morbidities. I have a good support system and am researching the hell out of this. Kind of obsessed, maybe. Trying to soak EVERYTHING in. Other people's stories, books, doctors info, fitness trackers, food journals, etc... I'm a sponge right now. :)

Good luck to you! I have the last couple requirements scheduled for July. Besides continue to stay good on my physician assisted weight loss, I'm going to go insane waiting for the approval between then and October. Where are you in your path?

Hi everyone from Atlanta... I'm pre-op, and going the self-pay route since insurance doesn't cover the procedure. The fortunate side is I do not have to jump through the usual hoops (i.e. psych, nut, diet) so I anticipate scheduling the sleeve procedure in August. I do plan to join a local support group and possible psych evaluation from a WLS specialist. Joining the forum to absorb as many tips that I can!

Looking forward to sharing and learning from you all.

I just started my journey. I had my infor class last week. This week I have class one. I am going to Franklin Square in MD. They don't. Seem that nice. I guess all the programs are like that.

Hi. I have had two visits with the weight loss MD. I have to do 6 months. I cannot complete any other of the required appointments until I have finished the 6 months and they submit my results to the insurance company and get approval to move forward. Then I have to see a Cardiologist, Pulmonary doctor and Psych. I'm hoping for a surgery date in November or December. A great Christmas present.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
