Gall Bladder Removal for Roux-en-y?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and I first want to thank everyone for their stories of struggle and inspiration. This is truly a very warm and welcoming community, so thank you from the "Newbie". ????

One of the (many) questions I have is about the gall bladder being removed during the bypass proceedure. I have gall stones so my surgeon would consider taking the gall bladder out along with the stones. I was wondering, after the Bypass is completed, does your body use the gall bladder anyway? Will it cause more issues if it's out?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

ForeverHealthy ????

I had the sleeve on 6/15 everything was going good until around November I ended up having my gallbladder removed on 12/29 and wished my doctor would of just took it out at the time of surgery.

It would of saved me from having to have another surgery and recovery. If your dr will take it out out the same time do it!!!!!

if you have stones now with the rapid weight loss you will just have more, I would try to get your dr to take it out now. Less strain on your body because one less surgery on your body later on!!

I had mine removed on the 7th and I am having my bypass surgery on feb 1st. My doc wouldn't do it at the same time and I refused to delay my bypass surgery so he just took it. Luckily he will "reuse" some of the incisions for the bypass surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
