Have a friend do karate chops on your neck and back a few times a day. Walk as much as you can. Swing your arms like a windmill. The only thing that gets rid of the surgical gas is time and movement. Good luck.

You list your surgical date as March 2014, so it doesn't sound like surgery-related gas (which I had - and oh my goodness yes, it was brutal, but then it 'passed' (ha!) after 48 hours.

Are you on any kind of meds, ie; Tylenol 3's, that cause Constipation and gas retention?

If it persists it sounds like a call to your physician may be in order....

Hoping you feel better very soon.

Thank you. I will try that for sure

@@windysample Okay then - you might wish to update your profile (once you are feeling better, of course!) to reflect the correct surgery date.

Congratulations on your surgery. What a brave and brilliant way to ring in a new year.

Yup, the gas pain SUCKS. Trust in the process - it will indeed pass. Its pretty nuts, isn't it? Gas-Ex helped me a little bit... that and just the passage of time. A couple of days and it will be resolved.

Hang in there!

It will pass. That's all I can say. Hang in there.

Misery loves company, so let me reassure you and tell you that I broke down and bawled, if that makes you feel any better.

Get up and swing your arms, move around - walk. The sooner you are on your feet and active, the faster the gas will dissipate.

I only had my surgery 1 week ago, so the feelings that you are having are still very fresh with me.

I have a 14 month old and this surgery was firstly for my health so I would live long enough to see her grow up (she is my last when I was 41).

I was a waiting list for nearly 10 months and was postponed once (for 14 days) so I hated the waiting but it gave me time to get my head around the whole issue and why I was going to do it.

I had to go to the hospital which is 1 1/2 hours away from where I live, my husband had to look after the baby, and my grown up children had to work - but in some ways being alone was better because I met tonnes of people on my way and it made the time go quick - sometimes support people make you more nervous!

It was all a spin - until they got me on that table to the needles - which I hate - I was surrounded by 7 men (various dr's and nurses - would have been interesting in another situation perhaps ;-) and they all held my hands and rubbed my head while they did their work with the needles etc, ................. next I woke up and I was so happy that finally I could live a more "normal" life, and was on my feet within a couple of hours because I was so determined that I wanted this - I was so excited I was busting out of myself!

You will be fine - you will survive and it will make you stronger! Like others have said compared with having a baby it is fairly simple - but hard to compare at the same time - different ends really!

Good Luck

Glenda xx

How's the gas now? How long did it last? What worked for you? 5 days out from surgery and still have bad pain in the shoulder at night only.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
