Warning - Pity Party for 1....

Recommended Posts

Y'all I just have to come here and write something and hope that it will stave off the binge that I desperately want to have! My job officially ends tomorrow and I found out more about getting Sc#*$@wed today on my severance and I am just generally having a crap day. With all the destruction and devastation surrounding me from the tornados this weekend, I have no right to complain about not having a job when over 500 people/families in my town have no homes and I know that but that does not help me at this moment! My reality is my reality and I am ticked off that I am the one losing my job! The bad guys (and trust me there are some in this story) are not supposed to win! I know, I know, they will get their's in the end. All things happen for a reason. I'll end up better off. Yada, yada.... All those things are true but all I know right now is how bad I wish I could get drunk and eat a whole bag of potato chips! Yes clearly still a food addict. I truly hope this urge to binge doesn't last the rest of my life!

Ok. I'm done. I just needed to get it out. I don't expect any responses. I appreciate that this is a safe place to vent.

This is a great place to vent. Try punching out your pillow, too. Expressing your anger and frustration in healthy ways is a great step in the right direction.

Eating over it won't help a thing.

@@Inner Surfer Girl - How about drinking? I am pretty sure it would help at least for a couple of hours.... ;)

Um yea, well just to be honest here, I did eat a very small snack size of chips. :( but at least it wasn't the giant bag of Ruffles I would have eaten in the past? Though that is only likely because I don't have it in the house. And to be clear, Water isn't what I was planning on drinking..... <_<

Awwww! You vent away!!

I can't remember, do you excersise? I think a good long walk, jog or few shots at a punching bag may be in order!

I know it's little consolation, but honestly a good hard excersise session helps when I'm stressed out. Plus you'll feel better that you burned off that little bag of chips ;) Hang in there lady! I'm sending positive vibes your way!

Venting is better than eating! Or getting drunk. Vent away!

I'm sorry you are losing your job. That totally sucks. You are right, the bad guys aren't supposed to win but sometimes they do. It blows. Eating chips and drinking wine are just a temporary fix that might lead to more chips and more wine. I heard chips are a gateway drug for chocolate, cake, and Cookies. Take care of yourself and I am praying that 2016 brings you a better job! ^_^

@@Daisee68 I feel your pain! You live in the Dallas area? Thank goodness you are safe! Hard habits are hard to change. I am off two weeks for xmas and because of the cold weather I have been staying home most days. I don't like cold! I get bored and and stressing about a few things. My first want is food. It is my go to relief for boredom and stress. I have had so many sugar free Popsicles the last several days that I think I am turning into one. I'm glad I haven't resorted to things I shouldn't have. I really need to go work out. It's such a funny feeling, when food has been my go to for so many years.

Hang in there and remember your goal.

You go ahead and vent, as you definitely have every right in this situation. I'm so sorry to hear about the awful things you are going through. You are a good, sweet person and I sincerely wish I could just snap my fingers and make it better.

But please don't add to your own misery by potentially sabotaging your surgery. You've come so far and achieved so much. No moment of weakness is worth a binge that you'll only regret later. This is a life long battle and I know you've got it in you to persevere. Channel all that emotion into updating your resume and job hunting. On the bright side, and I always believe there is a bright side in the darkest of storm clouds, think how much easier it'll be going on interviews without having to do it with the weight you've lost so far.

I had a friend in my pre op classes that got laid off just weeks before surgery, and that also meant she lost her insurance too. But she still made it happen (at age 59), and is now five months post op and working full time again. You can handle this. Things will get better. Hang in there! I'm sending good thoughts your way!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
