10 days post op and always hungry

Recommended Posts

What are your symtoms or signs of hunger? I'm asking bc I'm 4 days post op and I'm always hungry too but I realize it's only head hunger like I'm hungry all the time bc I want food bc I want to eat things that I used to eat or like I used to eat... But at the same time I can only fit 1oz of Water and I'm having full pains... If it's head hunger u have than that will take a while to subside bc you have to train ur body not to crave these things! Hope that all makes sense!

Strange thing is gas and stomach acid can give the sensation of real belly hunger. I addressed that and now I am just dealing with head hunger. Ask your doctor what otc acid reducer he recommends. I was already taking Prevacid so mine told me to stay on it for the short term because the stomach will continue to make acid but it is not getting solid food. That causes a false sense of hunger. For gas I am using gas ex that melt on your tongue.

You likely need a PPI. I ill admit after a few days of the liquid diet, it's not uncommon to want to chew, but if you are feeling what you think may be hunger pains, you likely need a PPI. My doctor started me on omeprazole/prilosec. Many others use Zantac, or Prevaid. A daily PPI will help with the acid that your tummy is producing that often feels like hunger pains.

Interesting to know that both acid and gas can cause this hunger - revisiting the doctor and seeing what can be done

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
