I miss chewing... Any suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm about 5 days post op and have the strongest desire to chew something/anything. I'm on liquids and jelly and yoghurt don't really cut it for me, and have been advised against gum, does any one have any recommendations.

There really isn't much help for that.........for now.

Think of it as a time to allow your jaws to rest.

You are gonna be chewing like its your job in the near future.

You'll be chewing so much to eat so little that it'll make you laugh at times.

Enjoy the break..........dem cheeks is about to be sore, sore, sore.

That is a good point to! But I guess it's natural to miss the things you can't do

Ice if your teeth aren't sensitive to the cold. Otherwise, when are you allowed cottage cheese?

if you eat anything solid you will be sick and that will cure your desire to chew anything real quick. not being mean just speaking from experience.

I did ask for suggestions, I think 5 days past op would be very premature for anything solid!

It's very natural.

Very understandable.

I was the same way.

Your life is about to change and your menu items with be tremendous in scope. Just hang in there a while longer.......just a little while longer.

It'll get much, much better.

You have the rest of your longer & leaner life to chew your back out.

You are just in that phase where your new stomach needs to heal and mend.

My Calcium citrate chews were really nice during that period. Gave me something to look forward to chomping on. Bariatric Advantage Chewy Bites. The fruit flavors are like eating Starburst candy.....no kidding.

Hang in there.....you are going to profit mightily from being patient now.

Truth spoken there !!!!

Can also do damage to the new stomach. Sure as heck don't want to do that.

I'm on liquids for 6 weeks, I'm going to try with the ice, I just manage the hot liquids better.

Gum? Try a plastic spoon - the soft bendy type. Or the stick in those popsicles.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
