I'm having a real rough time with Hair loss. Especially on top (crown). I have to do the "comb over" to cover it up. I am a red head with really long thick hair (not any more). I am about 15 months out from surgery. I take Vitamins and drink whey Protein everyday. I'm getting about 70+ grams of protein a day. I have never heard of the Shampoo. Where do you get it? I hope I am at a turning point and will get some Hair growth soon!

:)

I am 5 months out and have not had the problem(knock on wood). I take one Protein Shake a day. Plus 2 of Andrew Lessman's "healthy hair skin and nails vitamins" (HSN) For the shake I mix either Baretric advantage vanilla or Unjury vanilla with 8 oz skim milk, 2 servings of frozen strawberries and about 4 equal in a blender. I love it. It satisfies my craving for icecream too. Good luck

I am also 4 months from surgery and this hair loss is really scaring me. Every time i wash my hair, there is a huge clump of hair in the shower, and more comes out when i comb it. I wish more people that are 1-2 years from surgery would talk about this issue! I use nioxin and i don't really know if it's helping but it does make my hair look fuller.

more info would be helpful!

I am coming up on 2 years in July since I had my surgery. I have lost 98 pounds, which is amazing, and have only 20 to go, which might be the hardest part since my band is looser, and I'm working out and trying to eat right, so wish me luck! Just a couple of months ago, my hair started falling out less, and I noticed tons of little baby hairs popping up on my head, so I know it is coming back. I still lose some but much less than before. It is still noticeably thin on top, but I know it will take time for the new hair to fill in as it needs time to grow. I have posted several times about this hair product, and you might have already seen it, but if not, I'll say it again because it is has really worked for me in hiding the thinning hair while I wait for it to come back... go to QVC.com and search Joan Rivers hair products. It's looks like eyeshadow powder and comes with a brush and comes in different colors depending on your hair color. You stipple it on your head.. not fun to have to do every day, but it's better than having scalp showing through. It's only about $25. I also used Nioxin for a couple of weeks, and I really did notice less hair falling out, and I stopped using it and noticed a little more coming out again (less than when it was really bad but more than when I was using the Nioxin), so I really do think it works. Hang in there... from my experience, it will get better.

I have been banded for almost 4 months now and for about two months have expeienced hair loss. I'm really worried about this. I'm taking Biotin and trying very hard to eat more Protein. It's hard getting that much Protein down without getting "the brick".

Anyone had this problem? It totally freaks me out!!! Am I normal????:help:

Dont worry it will stop I'm just getting to my 1 year out and it has finally stopped i had really really bad Hair loss hated to brush it cause it was so bad.

Glad to hear the positive words. I am also having Hair loss -noticed it this month (5 months out). I know Protein is a problem, so I will try to concentrate on it. Good idea to get the powder and put in Jello or pudding. What is the best powder? I do not like the taste of the packaged drinks. Thanks for any and all help.

Congratulations on your weight loss!! That's amazing! And thanks for the encouraging words on Hair loss. I will definitely try the QVC product; it's funny, i have been doing that to my scalp with an eye shadow that works pretty well, but i'm sure the other kind will be better. it's good to know that it will ease up in the future, i hope!! i will start upping my Protein and i am doing Biotin 3 times a day.

Hi, I was wondering where you got Capilong for $14 because I'd like to try it. Thanks.

OMG! I have been banded now for a little over a year, and my hair is still falling out. My hair has always come out more than usual, but it is so thin now, and I am even having to use this powder make-up product to cover the area at the front/top of my head and in the part of my hair to camoflouge (sp?) the scalp. I hate that we all have to go through this, and I pray that it really is temporary, and I am wondering how much longer it will go on before it stops. I also heard that anesthesia can cause this, but over a year later?? I think I'll go see a dermatologist to see what they can tell me. I too have quite a bit come out every time I wash my hair (I wash less often now.) and brushing my hair after the shower, I get a brushfull every time, and anytime I run my hands through my dry hair, I get hairs that come out. I hate this!! If any of you are interested in that product I mentioned.. It's not fun having to put make-up on your head, but at least for the time being, it helps me not feel self-conscious about my scalp being seen by the world. It really does work. Go to QVC.com. It's a Joan Rivers product made especially for the head. It comes with a brush that you stipple it on with, and it comes in like 3 colors. I also got this product (BlueHillNaturals.com). It's called Capilong, and it's supposed to help Hair growth. It's like $14 dollars for about 6-7 oz. or something like that. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and do not know yet if it works.

BlueHillNaturals.com. I looked, and the price has gone up to $16.99. Honestly, I did not use the product long enough to really know if it works. If hair loss/thinning is something you're going through temporarily due to surgery or something, then I have found another product that has really saved me while I'm waiting for my hair to get thicker again.. It is on QVC.com. Search Joan Rivers hair products. It is a powder product that you stipple on your scalp with a brush.. It comes in different colors depending on your hair color. I would not be without it. It is around $25 or so.

I also use this product and love it. As for the Hair loss, I have noticed that I don't have that much hair loss after the initial loss that i had around the 4 month post surgery mark. From what I've heard from my hairdresser and others, this seems to happen frequently after any kind of surgery. After a couple of months it went back to normal for which I am very grateful! My hairdresser said it even happened to her 17 year old daughter after major surgery. So hang in there and hopefully it will work itself out.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
