I hate my band...

Recommended Posts

I truly believe even those who are a "success" with the band will eventually need it removed. I had mine for over 9 years. 7 of those years I had very little Fluid in it due to reflux issues. The last year I had no fluid. I felt fine once the fluid was out but found out after my revision what a horrific scene it was inside me. The doctor said my stomach was close to shutting off completely and it had to come out in pieces. I have to wonder what all long term band stomachs look like. I am so glad I had it out before I experienced a life threatening incident.

New new me, I couldn't agree more. My surgeon said all bands, literally all of them will need to be removed eventually. They have a life expectancy of 8-10 years, no matter if you are compliant or not. My band adhered to my liver and that had nothing to do with anything I did. My band was also unfilled for the last 2 years that I had it due to severe reflux as well. I truly regret the band now. A few years ago, I was still in love with it. It worked, until it didn't.

I am glad I had issues with it before it got worse.

I had a VSG with zero problems, seriously I was expecting some, but have none.

That said, even a sloppy band will do more for you than Jenny Craig, WW, or the new pills (tried em all).

No matter what we try, we will still have to change our lifestyle and even if the band isn't as strong a tool as VSG, Gastric Bypass, or DS, it's still a real tool that can help.

Embrace it for all its worth!

Unfortunately no wls will work if you can't stick to a consistent eating plan. There is no magic surgery. Before putting your body through major surgery again really evaluate yourself. Have you followed your band rules? Have you visited your doc and discussed your diet, fill level etc? Wishing you the best on whatever journey you decide!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
