BCBS of IL PPO (Houston)

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am new to this application//site! I currently have Aetna Open Access plan and will be switching to BCBS January 1 since I've have soooooo many issues with my current plan. Everytime I find an In Network doctor for this, Aetna then comes back and says just kidding they aren't in network (currently filing a claim with state bored). Anyway I digress, does anyone have any information on BCBS of IL PPO plans. Perhaps helpful tips I can use. I live in the Houston area (newly moved here) so I'm not sure even on a doctor at this point but am determine to get this surgery.

Current BMI 42.4

Have been seeing a weight loss Doctor (non surgical just work out and prescribed Contrave) since mid October. Not sure if this will help any.

I lived in Houston when I had surgery. I had BCBSTX. My doc was Ricardo Bonnor and the surgery took place at Memorial Hermann-Memorial City, which is a Bariatric Center of Excellence.

Thank you! I actually was visiting them with my Aetna insurance so I was hoping they took BCBS. I'm going to look up Dr Bonnor!

I'm in Alabama but I also have BCBS of IL. My approval process was pretty straightforward since all they require is a nut visit and a psych visit! At least, that's all my particular plan wanted. Call the number on the back of your card when you get it and talk to them. They've got some of the best CSRs I've ever dealt with! Good luck!

Thank you! I'm really worried about hearing some people took a year or six months of doctor visits. I'd much rather get this done before summer as I would like to get some time before the sweltering heat here to loss a little lol

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
