does anyone have 60 pounds or less to lose?

Recommended Posts

I also have about 60lbs to lose. My highest weight ever was 249lbs. I got down to 170lbs then quit smoking. Now I'm up to 212lbs and can't lose it. So I'm planning to fly to texas and do the hiatal hernia route which means most of it is covered by my insurance. I'm 5'7. My BMI currently is 33.5. I got some of the usual negativity. Strangely enough the harshest judgement I've received has been from others who have been through WLS. Like they don't understand how hard it is? Anyways, if my plan for dallas falls through, I'm going to mexico. Hell or high Water I will he healthy again.

Anyone know if you're less likely to have hair loss if you're a low BMI candidate? I've been reading the complications from surgery and I'm truly worried about Hair loss among other things... I know it's vain, but I can't help it. :P

I've wondered the same thing. My hair is very long and thick. I worry about losing too much. Granted I'll do it either way. I've read on realself from a doc that taking Biotin and a good Multivitamin helps as well as keeping enough protien. Apparently it's worse if your Vitamin intake isn't right

Love reading all the stories! Makes me feel not so alone on this journey! I'm scheduled for surgery on 10/26. I'm 5'0 189 (after the 6 months of weigh in appt) started at 215. My goal is 50-60lbs. Praying I get approved for the surgery. Should know this week. I'm super nervous for the surgery.

I really dont think so, but I could be wrong. I think the loss is from the restricted caloric intake. Im worried about that also.

Well I have to go back to searching. I was told today my BMI is too low. I have to be over 40 to be accepted :( Am I really doing the right thing? I'm willing to pay, not expecting any insurance to help. I know I'm fat but not in danger of losing my life at this moment. I'm 5'4" at 200 lbs.

Do I go the Mexico route?

That's the route I'm taking. I could gain another 40-50 lbs and MAYBE be approved, but I figure that will only cause more medical issues. I've told my family doctor my plan and surprisingly she didn't even try and talk me out of it. Not that that is her job, but I figured she'd give me the usual, you're not big enough to be doing such a drastic surgery. She never even voiced any concerns about me going the Mexico route.

I've done a ton of research and feel very comfortable with the surgeon I have chosen. Although I am somewhat nervous and every once in a while question my decision, I wish my surgery was tomorrow so I can get on with my life.

At only 28 years old, I don't want to live the rest of my life in depression. I am sick of my weight having this much control over my life. I realize this is a life long commitment but am looking forward to focusing on other things in my life than just the scale.

It's a huge decision that only you can make, but I do think it's worth at least doing research and considering the Mexico option. There's probably only a handful of surgeons I've read about that I would consider using, but the same could probably be said for the States and Canada.

How did DR and insurance approve you with such a small amount too loose.? I am not taking the want/need to loose 60 lbs lightly. I just know what I had to do and I have 1

90 lbs to loose.

Its usually comorbidities. The rule of thumb is 35 and 2 comorbidities such as high blood pressure, or diabetes, arthritis etc. 40 with no comorbidities.

Love this thread. I started my weight loss journey over 7 months ago with a starting weight of 252 at 5'2", current weight of 189 hoping to get to at least 131 but ideally 125. That would be a total of 64lbs from my current weight but total loss of 126. I'm just waiting for my insurance approval now and hoping for surgery in December. I was worried about getting a hard time about going for surgery after successfully loosing weight but honestly I struggle ever day with being extremely hungry. And although I've lost weight (this much and more) I've never been completely successful in keeping it off. I'm hoping this will be the tool for need to loose this last 60+ pounds and more importantly keeping it off!

Hello everyone!

I had my surgery last year on December 23, 2015 and am down 62 pounds...11 months post-op and am ready to hit my goal of 150. I went from a size 18 to a 10. XXL to a Medium!! This is the best decision I've ever made. I'm off all my medications and my diabetes is gone. I really don't want to lose any more weight and I can't believe I wrote that...lol. I remember getting ready for the surgery and time went so slow and I was excited and nervous but I will tell you this past year flew by and the changes to come to each of you will be amazing. I wish you all a speedy recovery and my advice is to follow the program and it will melt right off of you! Good luck and God Bless you!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
