I need to fly out of state on business. The flight is 1 hr, 1 stop over for an hour & half & then fly again for an hour. I've read 1 post online where someone's doctor just gave them a shot of lovenox the day of the flight & for the return. I'm wondering though if anyone has any knowledge or experience in this area?

How far out are you? I had a three hour flight home 3 days postop, followed by 6 hours driving. I wore compression stockings and walked the whole time in the airport waiting for my flight. Got up and walked the aisle a couple times during the flight. Stopped and got out to walk every two hours while driving.

I had a 5 hour flight (total) post op. I flew to Mexico to have my surgery and 4 days post op I returned home. I had no need for any special medication and instead just wore my compression socks from the hospital. Getting up to walk and stretch every hour of so helps too.

Flight is an hour, then a hour & half lay over, followed by another hour 20min flight. I gotta get those compression socks, where might I find some?

I had a total of the lovenex (sp) shots. My last was the day I drove home five hours. I was told by my doc to get out and walk for ten min every hour and I did.

My surgeon gave me a pair.

I had a 15 hr flight 8 days post op. Was not an issue. The surgeon did have me taking self administered Heparin for 6 days after surgery to prevent clots. But that had nothing to do with flying.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
