Lightheaded

Recommended Posts

Just wondering. I left a message with the dr today still waiting to hear back. I have been having these lightheaded spells. A few times I have had to sit down in fear I was going to hit the floor. At first I thought it was what I was or wasn't eating, but now it happening more frequently. My diet has been very consistent often repeating the same meals. I did try ramping up the calories a bit thinking that may be the problem. Upped the Water intake to 90 oz a day (a lot of chugging going on there). I'm 7 months out and several different places suggest dumping, but again still taking in very little sugar, no gluten, limited carbs (usually only in veggies and fruit) nothing greasy or very fatty. My focus has been Protein and calories. Any insight would be great.

Sounds like your sugar levels could be dropping drastically too

Many people who undergo bariatric surgery suffer from a type of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) called Reactive Hypoglycemia. This article will explain the condition. https://www.ridgeviewmedical.org/services/bariatric-weight-loss/enewsletter-articles/reactive-hypoglycemia-postgastric-bypass/

I'm a little over 6 months out and I've been having this problem too. I just met with my surgeon and he thought it could be that I needed more Protein or more fluids. The did a blood test and everything was fine except I have low levels of Vitamin D. I'll be taking a supplement and we'll see if that helps.

I'm a year out and still get dizzy and lightheaded. My last appointment, all my blood work was perfect. I know now that it usually means I need to eat something.

My wife had surgery about 9 years ago and she says she still gets it from time to time.

I have very low Vit D and have been having spells like this for about a week or so. I am just shy of seven months out too. Wondering if the Vit D deficiency could be causing this ?!?

So finally after logging my food and blood work they found nothing. I feel better though. Not sure what was going on. My vit d level was slightly down. she said normal was 30 and mine was like 27. So they amped up my supplements a bit but honestly I was feeling better before they did that. My surgeon suggested that it could have been a virus and that was how my body fought it off. It went on for a few weeks and then it was like someone flipped a switch and I was normal again. My weight loss continued like normal. So I guess it will remain a mystery.

I honestly was going to ask about that too. I am only 6 days post-op and thought that it is still from surgery. In my 2 mandatory liquid weeks I have to hit 60-80 g of Protein and stay below 50 g of carbs. That means I am only eating about 500 calories a day and no caffeine either. I have a blood pressure cuff at home and although I was on blood pressure medicine before I haven't taken it again after surgery as my blood pressure is around 110/65. I am pleased about this but also worried that I might not be able to return to work if I feel light-headed. Sometimes I think a caffeinated tea or coffee could just do the trick, but I am so afraid to fear off my surgeons protocol. Let us know what the doc says about this please and good luck.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
