Big NSV that has created a dilemma for me.......

Thank you all so much for your responses. I teach my kids that to not tell something is lying so it's hard for me sometimes to separate privacy and lying. I appreciate all your feedback!

@@Joz31 -- I don't do Facebook either, but here it is from Uncle Google.

@@wannaBthinsoon -- Too many names and too much junk. Please point yourself out. This is exciting!

I found the practice's website first. A video features a few patients who've done/are doing well -- happy stuff. One of the women, though, said something that she may have invented for effect. She claims that at 240 lbs, she couldn't stay afloat in Water. It works the other way. A large person will rise to the surface, while skinny, thin and slim people are respectively lower in the Water. Fat makes for buoyancy. Way back when I was perhaps 'only' 225-ish, I cringed when, in a pool, I felt that most of my body was on the surface with very little partly submerged. My fear was that someone would notice.

You've never lied.

You just haven't divulged a bigger part of the weight loss equation. It was nobody's business.

If someone asked you point blank "did you have weight loss surgery?" And you said no - well then that's a lie.

I'd say GO FOR IT!

You've earned this!

Be proud of that incredible weight loss and also see it as what a big compliment it really is.... your doctor is so happy with you that he wants to show you off!

In my opinion - that's big!

He picked you to represent what a successful weight loss patient looks like only 6-7 months later. You've worked so hard and your doc recognizes this!

I'd do it in a heart beat! HAHA

I wouldn't blur your face... you said so yourself that you're proud of yourself and if you blur out your face then it kinda doesn't really give you that full recognition of your perseverance and dedication.

IMO

Good luck to whatever choice you make. Keep up your inspiring work!

Thank you so much for providing those links, I had no idea you could view that without being a member on the site. After seeing that I feel much more comfortable given that there are hundreds of other photos on there. Thank you all for your help and feedback!

We have the same surgeon! No names were mentioned during the seminar I attended. Can't remember if names are mentioned on their Facebook page.

It's up to you. I wonder if this is one of those cases where feelings change with time. I've had to be on depression meds for years. At first, it bothered me and I never mentioned it. Now I don't care. I've come to think that if my acknowledgement in whatever way helps someone else to seek help, that's all for the better. But I wasn't always like that. Maybe telling others about your WLS is like that. I think Dr. Hoehn would understand if you decline. Would you feel differently when you reach your personal goal?

Either way, what a great ego boo to have your surgeon be so thrilled with your success that he wants to use you as a testimonial!

ETA: NVM! I should have read the entire post.

I do it, but I'm a guy. Don't ever do anything like that unless you are 100% comfortable doing it. I mentioned my weight loss on FB, but not how. Only explained how to people I know are really struggling.

If you want to remain on the down low about weight loss surgery, do NOT have your picture put on the Facebook page.

You don't owe anyone anything after your weight loss surgery.

And don't let your surgeon or anyone on her/his staff make you feel like they're doing YOU a favor by having you advertise for them.

I see so many people get talked into things like this that they wind up regretting.

Do what YOU want to do. Don't cave to any pressure at all, including the "be nice to everyone" instinct you may have going on.

Here is the thing; if you graciously decline there will be 100 successful "losers" behind you who will say YES. He wants you to post your picture to promote "his" business. You have had great success; don't let that be connected at all to owing your Doc anything by posting. I too am a very private person and would never put my picture on facebook; the entire WORLD has access to your pictures, this freaks me out!!

Congratulations you deserve it!!

I would go on FB first and come out about my surgery( Hollywood Style) then I would it, if only for one reason,

If you can even inspire or help one person because of your actions it may be that one life you helped save, and with the state of this world at this very minute it's not a bad thing and it's really needed.

I promised myself several things after surgery, to continue my healthy lifestyle even after goal weight, to pay it forward( I've helped 3 people already, (2 of which went my same surgeon) and to always remain humble, this is my latest pic that I took Wednesday after I went to buy some pants for an upcoming vacation, my last size was a 52w, down from a 60w, and I ended up with a 48w pant, 12 sizes down since June 10th, 388lbs in January, 342.2lbs I'm June, and 269 six days ago, how did I remain humble? I didn't try to hide anything or hold in my stomach when I took this pic, I'm very proud of myself and that I turned my life around and the wrinkles and excess skin don't embarrass me at all....... Just do it, help others post-254362-14481460319344_thumb.jpg post-254362-14481460500774_thumb.jpg

Joz31,

Congrats on your success so far! And wow, that’s definitely a huge NSV!

I understand your hesitation, especially since you’ve been so private before. You are not obligated to be a publicity promotion for your surgeon, no matter how grateful you are. I’m just pointing that out to make sure that whatever decision you make, you make for yourself and not for someone else’s benefit.

If, as you said, you’re afraid you won’t look at good as you think you do, that’s a legitimate fear. Chances are, though, that you’ll look even better than you think you do! But if you’re afraid, maybe you could tell your surgeon you’ll be happy to participate in a few months, when you’re at goal weight and have been there for a little while.

I think the idea of blurring your face is a great one. Maybe when you gain a little more confidence in a while you can even un-blur your face!

Again, thank you all so much for your feedback, it has truly helped me to see things from various perspectives, which was what I was looking for. I am definitely happy with how I look now, I just worried I guess that coworkers or friends may come across the info and feel like I led them on. I have already faced a ton of questions from all due to the rapid loss I had, and I have been asked on multiple occasions if I had weight loss surgery, to which I replied no. That's part of my worry of others seeing it, because I have not told the truth when directly asked. I don't even know why I care so much about what other people think, I guess I just don't want to be scrutinized by others. I am a nurse and we often eat junk food, etc. due to long shifts with few breaks. I don't want to feel judged by others anytime I put a piece of food in my mouth. Anyway, it helped alot to realize there are hundreds of photos already on his site, so it's really not a big deal. I was worried I would be among a select few pictures, but that is clearly not the case. I'm still going to ponder it to decide what is best for me, but you all have certainly opened my eyes to a different perspective, and I am truly greatful for all your responses.

-Joz

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
