How Long Should I wait?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I am currently Pre-Op and will be having RNY surgery on December 9th.

My question is how long after surgery should I wait before trying more high impact exercise? Like Skiing, Running and Jumping?

I know we are supposed to start walking the day of surgery, and low impact should be fine, but being winter I want to learn how to ski this year. Also, an indoor trampoline park just opened near me that I really want to try with my friend.

Has anyone had experience with this?

I think everybody's different and that's probably going to be up to your body. The thing that I noticed was I didn't hurt from the surgery but because of my diet change my energy levels were really low so you may feel up to it but until you get back on solid foods you may not be able to go through with it.

6-8 weeks to fully heal is what I adhered to. Start out slow and then work your way up. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck-

.

Talk to your doctor and see what he says then listen to your body. I had an easy surgical experience and went back to Water aerobics at 3 weeks with no restrictions.

Your doctor should clear you after about 6 weeks or so. Don't try anything except walking until he clears you!

I was cleared for vigorous activity 6 weeks post op. You might feel fine, but I didn't want to risk forming adhesions or anything.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
