2nd day post-op

Recommended Posts

I am 2 days post-op and I am feeling nauseated from the gas buildup. I feel like I have to burp but nothing comes out. Do any of you have any suggestions like maybe Gas x or something that can help...I am really annoyed and I cannot drink that much at all because of it. HELP!!

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.

That is the number one thing you can do.

I used a few Gas-X thin strips (they dissolve on your tongue) and they helped some.

The gas is not in your GI tract, it is floating around in your peritoneum, it will have to be absorbed by your body, but you want to get it moving and walking is the best for that.

It sounds like you are restricted from teh swelling around the band from surgery. Many folks describe their restriction as a golf-ball feeling. It does get better. Are you gulping or sipping? Is the Fluid ice cold? I also would suggest you try some warm tea (decaf of course) or broth, it may ease that tight feeling a bit. And SIP, your goal should be about 4-8 oz an hour for the first few days. I was instructed to try for 1 oz every 15 minutes initially.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
