Anyone forced to have LB & hate having it all the time?

Boo Boo, you look great! What have you done to get all of the weight off? I have had some progress but you seem like you got it off at a much faster rate than I will be able to!

Thanks, I worked my a$$ off literally! :) I eat about 800 calories a day and do 1 hour of cardio and 1/2 hour of weights everyday at 4 am before work. I have adjusted the band to a new way of life and I just do it. I made the committment and never gave up, I think changing your mind and relationship with food was key for me!

I have never heard anything this crazy! Especially knowing what I (and everyone else) had to go thru to get approved. And at the age of 19 you can just say No and not have it done. I agree that there is a lot of holes in this story and that she needed to open her mouth when she was in the meeting. Lord knows No one would make any decisions for me without my approval.

~~~~~ On the other Hand~~~~~
I'm so thankful I have found this site. Is there anyone out there from Florida? I am in Bradenton and looking for some local support to go with this site
I can't wait to be banded!
I just wanted to say that I LOVE the Bradenton area. It's one of my favorite spots in Florida.
Ok no offense but that sounds like a load of crap, if you were 19 at the time only you would be able to set up the appointment, they would talk to you and ring you about these circumstances as for the fact that you were forced into it, sometimes people are, they have family and friends saying ( oh you would look so much better if you were thinner) but in your case? I don't really believe you - sorry but if you didnt want the surgery you should say something instead of just going through with it for the sake of your family
Has anyone consodered she might have a mental illness?
Her early posts sounds like she was compliant with the band and Dr's instructions etc. Maybe she was just too immature to know at the time the band was placed what the long term requirements etc would mean.
Or maybe she was/is just not mentally stable to make the decision in the first place.
Personally, I am (mostly) against those under 21 getting a lap band. I would be in favor of it for people 18 to 21 if they had very high BMI's.
Shortgal I know exactly what you mean when you say certain people shouldnt get it, for you saying 21 its obviously because your in america and thats the age limit for drinking and what not but here its 18. I hate when I hear that people under 18 get it, fair enough they have weight problems but I definetly think they should not have it until there 18, you havent matured properly until your at least 20 so why do it? when I say matured I mean your body hasn't developed to adult yet you know? Im 19 and will most likely be getting the band within 3 months, I've thought about it since I was 15, I would never get it before I was 18, it's annoying to hear that certain people on here had it when they were 15-16-17, i definetly think that's wrong
Oh in reply to Ariel's question
Times vary from day to day but not alot
I eat about 7:30-8:30am I have either, a 1/2 cup Cereal with protien milk or I have a cup(not literally but only what I was told I could have) lowfat cottage cheese with some fruit. or a protien shake ( I'd make enough for the whole day, because this was normally what I had as an afternoon snack, but for Breakfast I'd drink enough to fill me up for Breakfast & save the rest for when ever i needed it)
I drink water/coffee(just like I did pre LB) & maybe a small home made protien shake (where you add as much protien powder as you want) or some sliced carrots/brocolli/green peppers for a snack. ( I didn't normally need a snack this was normally only if I managed to get hungry before lunch.
lunch 1-2pm I can have bread anymore(it makes me sick)so I no longer have sandwiches. from a veggie & meat sandwich I went to a portion of veggies and a recommended size patty of either lowfat hamburger or a small piece of chicken/or baked fish.
coffee & Water drinking would continue an hour after lunch was finished so I was sure not to was any of my lunch away.
If my day was going to run long I would would have what was left of or what ever was there of my protien shake if I didn't have for meal already.
dinner consisted of more meat(ground beef, chicken, fish) I have 1 tortilla(corn) about 4-5 inchs across.with a little bit of hummus on it.
but meals would vary, I was given an "Exchange Lists" book by the American Dietetic Associatoin & American Diabetes Association right after surgery so most of my meals were planned around that book & the getting it to fit into my 1cup portion size.
I did loose alot of weight infact right after surgery I had a hard time but I followed the diets to the "T" I lost between 12-14 lbs my first month, & this last month I lost 10 lbs. I do alot of farm work: walking & pulling fence, cutting & collecting barb wire, working on the tractor, picking rocks, etc. (walking is my normal form of transportation, cuz vehicles normally cant reach the places I work. But I was told to do other exercise other than that so I also walked when I had time after work).
I found out on my last check up that during the surgery they put 2cc of Fluid in to my band before I was put in the room to wake up. I was at 4.4 cc but the doctor had to remove some because it was too tight. so now I am at 4 cc. in a 10 cc band.
So I'm sorry let me get this correct, you didnt want the band, you thought it was for your mother, you went along with it anyway and still complained about it and then you followed the before and after diets to a T? This really sounds like a load of crap to me, maybe its just because it sounds extremely far fetched but who in there right mind would go along with this if they didnt want it?
You know....I was reading to surgery day and waiting for the point at which her mom knocked her over the head or drugged her and shoved her onto the gurney. Since that didn't appear to happen - why the hell wouldn't she have just NOT GONE TO THE HOSPITAL TO GET IT DONE. I could slightly, kind of, sort of believe it until I got to the surgery date and it just "happened."
>>She got mad & said we can go have it taken out. (no because She signed the waver saing it could only be removed if it was a medical emergency.)<<
This got me, too. Even if that were legal, just go to another doctor! They'd be more than happy to take it out for you!
You could have legally denied the surgery...your mother couldnt have forced you to have it done...its cosmetic....
I've read most of this story, although I skipped some of it. Is it just me, but is it normal for a girl to bench press 450 lbs?
The missing piece to the story of her being railroaded into LB surgery, might be that she was seriously ill with a bad case of diabetes and/or many other serious medical conditions that could have been life threatening.
That doesn't make a lot of sense though because of her activity level. If she were seriously ill, how could she pull up fences, replace barbed wire and bench press 450 lbs? (All before breakfast, right?)
Furthermore, if she really was gilding the boy cows, building the barn, making hay bales and all kinds of farm work, why the heck would she need to or want to lift weights?
This story smells. It reminds me of some of the stories you hear people call in to talk radio shows. I know people who concoct stories just for the fun of it and my niece even wound up having one radio station send her prizes for having the most sad and moving story. She didn't want the prizes but was too embarrassed at that point to tell the truth... that she made it all up!
I think I may have mentioned this in an earlier post. I saw that this thread was still going today and it really tickeled me. I'll bet Diesel is laughing his(?) a$$ off to see it still going. :)
      I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!
      Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!
        I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗
        Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.
        I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.
        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!
        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.
        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.
        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
