Gerd or gastritis before RNY surgery

Recommended Posts

I had severe acid reflux (GERD) for a few years prior to RNY surgery. It went into remission shortly after surgery and has not occurred since then. I am 30 months post-op.

Hi I had severe GERD and Gastritis. I'm 4 weeks post op. I still have it, it's not has severe as it was. I use to take 40 mg of Pritonix (Pantropazole) 2x a day. Since my RNY I only take it once a day. My surgeon says I may have to take it about 3 months after surgery. But so far so good. RNY was my only option after my EGD revealed the gastritis and Gerd. My surgeon changed my procedure from sleeve to RNY.

Nice to hear positive outcomes, i was scheduled for sleeve surgery but now my surgeon says no because of my Gerd and gastritis he says rny is better option but i was so sure i wanted a sleeve that now I'm worried my only option is RNY since i read is a riskier surgery i want to lose my extra weight which is around 75-80 lb but dont wanna be too skinny as I see people get with RNY

@@JohaAidenMommy, you will be just fine. I had the exact same worries. I researched for months about the sleeve only to strongly suggested that I have RNY due to gerd and Gastritis. You won't be too skinny. Take a look at some before and after pictures in this bypass forum. Definitely motivating.

I also have GERD and am opting for RNY because of it. I am hoping for relief after surgery early next year!

@JohaAidenMommy...you're welcome. I had my RNY done on 10/12. I've lost 20 lbs so far. I've also been in a stall for almost 3 weeks.

My surgeon also said I needed an RNY when I first told him my preference was a sleeve. He explained how my GERD would be worse with the sleeve. I'm almost 6 months out and haven't experienced any heartburn or acid reflux since surgery. After 6 years of daily medication I have been previcid free since day one after my surgery.

After surgery, it was the first time in 25 years I haven't had GERD. I almost cried simply because I finally felt better and didn't have to take massive amounts of meds to keep in under control.

I was taken off my 2 GERD medications right after RNY. My Dr.put me on Pepcid for a month. I am 1 week post surgery and am very happy with the decision of RNY.

Gerd gone after. I would have had the surgery for just that reason.

I am almost 7 weeks post op and have intermittent reflux symptoms. I take omeprazole 20mg twice a day. It was really bad at about 4 weeks and lasted 2 weeks straight. It is lessening every day now.

You're going to have as you heal. My surgeon prescribed famotidine 20mg for about the first month. I still take it if I know something might upset my stomach like coffee or some medications like Mucinex.

Have you talked to your surgeon about it at a follow-up?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
