Hi All,

I'm 10 days post-surgery and having a hard time getting my liquids in. Specifically Protein Drinks. I have terrible side pain with the Premier Protein. There's always a little grit in the bottom last swallow and I wonder if there's more grit in the drink than i realize. Has anyone experienced this? My other liquids seem to be ok and don't cause any pain so I'm thinking its this drink.

Suggestions...???

Try a different Protein Drink. There are a million different types out there.

I found Atkins and muscle milk is tolerable cause it comes in cartons. You can actually finish the whole thing versus the larger bottles. Carton comes 15 grams of Protein.< /p>

I would suggest mixing more Water with it. I don't like my Protein Shakes with only 8 oz of water, doesn't taste good to me. I mix it in the large Blender Bottle (24 oz) I like it better that way and still gets in the Protein and counts towards your water goal. Try that. Or try a different brand. I use ISO 100 and love it.

I had an awful time with premier as well! I've switched over to the nectar iced lemon tea mixed with diet lemonade and I rarely have any problems now. The first two weeks were really tough with Protein. But once I tried nectar things have been so much better.

That's too bad about the Premier...I really like it. One of the best ones I've been able to find in terms of high Protein and lower calories. Never noticed any grit...are you shaking it enough? I'm over a year out...I supplement with that, Syntrax Nectar, visalus shake and Pure Protein Bars. I aim for a minimum of 80g daily.

Thanks everyone. I will have to try the nectar. I've switched to muscle milk but it's funny how my tasters have changed. It's not my favorite anymore. I will pick up some EAS. I've used it in the past. You've all helped so much. This is such a life changing adventure and I'm like a fish outta water...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
