I'm four months out and solid food still is uncomfortable to eat. I'm not overeating. The feeling passes after about an hour and many burps. I'm trying to not swallow air. Is this the way it is going to be? Any suggestions?

I'm almost 3 months out, and I have this same sensation when I eat certain foods, namely heavy Protein shakes and ground meat. Are there certain foods that do it more than others? Are you eating very, very slowly? Some people need to eat even slower than is recommended. Usually the full, uncomfortable feeling is either from foods that your stomach just does not like or from eating a little too fast. At least, that's what I have experienced. :) Hope you feel better soon. I know how frustrating it is to feel sick every time you try to eat.

I'm fine with foods from the mushy stage, tonight i had chicken breast cooked in the crockpot with canned gravy and cooked mixed veggies. It was soft and chewed well. Still feel that pressure. Definitely stops me from overeating. I just feel like i should be able to eat regular food by now.

I cant eat white meat of any kind. and red meat has to be raw. I cut my meat into small pieces before I go to the table. this helps to remind me small bites which helps slow down the bites.

It took me a long time to be able to tolerate eating normally but at one year out I am fine. At 4 months it was still rough for me. I could only eat 1/4 cup at a time and I had to go super slow. It does get better.

I found that chili and Soups go down a lot easier. You can fortify them to double their Protein content. It is easier to get exact measure volumes when using these, because you are using one measured cup for the total rather than several cups or measuring spoons for meal components.

I do get that feeling from certain foods. For me the major culprit is eggs of any kind. I decided to try them again yesterday for lunch and after 14 months post op still have this issue.

For the most part that feeling is usually related to certain foods. You may need to eat much slower and pay attention to what foods cause that feeling. I would bet there are some specifics and it is not everything you eat.

Yes, things get more normal as time goes on but that does take time and going back to regular food requires a lot of trial and error. You are only 16 weeks post op, that really is not a lot of time. Your entire digestive system was rerouted. When you think about that 4 months is not that long.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
