I Would Like To Treat Myself

Recommended Posts

It's been about two and a half months since I started this journey including pre and post op. So far everything has been going swimmingly.

I don't want to shop for any clothes, shoes or purses. Haven't lost enough lbs to buy a piece of jewelry. So I have decided on a massage. How soon after my surgery can I get one? I was going wait till the last incision healed.

How are you guys treating yourselves after hitting some milestones?

I have been hesitant to get new clothes, but the old ones were like tents on me. I finally had to get a new pair of jeans and some shirts. I found the cheapest stuff I could get for now, as I am sure I won't be in them too long. I have developed a love for workout type clothes now. I even wear 1/4 zip athletic type pullovers and workout hoodies to work now.

I thought about that. It was on my shortlist, but realized my little daughter might be freaked out by them ;)

I struggle with wanting to buy clothes. I was a clothes horse pre-op and now that I can fit into more things I really want to shop, but I'm still losing and know it would be a waste of money. I had a groupon over the summer and had a massage. It was divine! As long as your incisions are healed and your tummy is not tender to touch, go for it!

I'm waiting for December to buy a few new clothing essentials for the wardrobe. By then I will definitely be swimming in my current wardrobe.

My mother-in-law gave me a gift certificate for a day spa. I have never been comfortable with things like that so I am giving it to my sister. I know this is rooted in low self esteem, but whatever.

If you are not comfortable with a full body massage try a mani pedi. Spas offer a plethora of services. Believe me not everyone who goes to a spa is a runway model. You deserve to get pampered. Take your sis or friend with you. It might help ease you into it.

A massage sounds like a nice reward.

I've been mulling over what I'm going to do when I hit goal weight. Not sure yet.

I could always do like Mrs Name Change (from the "with a new body comes....." thread) and start romping around with multiple partners and getting my rocks off......never telling my wife, of course, thus exposing her to everything I've been exposing myself to. Sport humping. Being a regular old Dirk Diggler.

But then again.......I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror and would no longer have a shred of self-respect.

There are better rewards (fun things to spend money on besides doctor's bills....gotta love improved health).

My old pickup is going to need replacing at some point......a new ride would be nice. May hang onto to the old truck and use if for hunting and such......and get something sportier and fun to drive. Yeah, that's it....that's the ticket !!!!!!

I've had all kinds of celebrations:

No longer needing the seatbelt extension

Buying smaller clothes

The day my old sweats fell completely off my body. (before I left the house).

I have tried to Celebrate and observe them in non-food ways. I've always been a girly gal. I love fashion and makeup. Sometimes my treats are a new lipstick, sometimes a mani/pedi, the massage was wonderful. They can be discrete and you can keep your underwear on, but it does require being comfortable with another person touching your body. I think it's important to acknowledge the mile stones.

Congrats on all your hard earned milestones.

I love the makeup idea. Will definitely borrow that from you. Thanks.

Speaking as a massage therapist go and get that massage its actually really good for you and will help you heal faster as massage reduces inflammation in the body pushes Fluid into the places it should go and helps lower blood pressure

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
