Hi Everyone,

What a great site this is, I wanted to say thank you to all the contributors – your stories and advice have really helped me on the first leg of this journey.

I am due to have my Lap Band fitted this Saturday, so I thought I would stop being a forum ‘lurker’ and write a little post myself.

I am currently on the two week pre op milk diet – which has been hard – but not too bad. Thankfully I really like milk – so drinking 4 pints a days was fine for me. Resisting the temptation to eat has been very hard – Top tip – don’t offer to have a Halloween Party in your house when you are on a pre op diet..ha ha, what was I thinking?? The house was full of sweets and hotdogs and, well....you get the picture. I had 1 hot dog – no bread and a small Krispie cake – that has been my only cheat.

So – just a couple of days until surgery – I’m excited – but I’m also ‘bricking it’ – as we say in the UK! I have a little girl and the fear of not waking up has consumed me. I have never been afraid of surgery before, but this feel s different as this is elective and linked to my weight – which has been a source of guilt/shame for so long. I haven’t really not slept properly for a week.

I’m committed to the long term plan and I’m trying to focus on that - i just can’t wait to be on the other side of surgery. It would be just great to get some words of advice/encouragement about the surgery – getting through it, how you feel when you first wake up/first day/first week etc – alongside any tips you have for helping the band to bed in dealing with the liquid diet. I plan to live on Protein Shakes and chicken broth and thin soups- does this sound about right?

Thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give me - this site has helped me so much so far. There are some negative stories , but they too have helped me go into this with my eyes open. I just hope I am one of the lucky ones who will be saying – my only regret is that I did not do it sooner!

Respect to you all xxxxxxx

I agree that it can get the best of you. I hadn't even gotten my approval yet and I'm was scared because I didnt want to make the decision to do something in which I may never wake up from but I've heard so many success story's. I also met someone at a baby shower two weeks ago and she happen to be talking to me about and suddenly she came out and said that she had gotten the band and how she had it fore two years and it was the best decision of her life. She looks fantastic and she was so proud of her decision and for me that was a sign from God that everything would be ok. I hope this has helped you in some way.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
