Worried I can't do the pre-op diet!

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 8 of my pre-op diet... I can't lie and say I haven't cheated.. I did at least 4 of the 8 days... With veggie Soup, or just some veggies(one meal on those days) I Pray it doesn't effect my surgery.. I do very well all day until around 4-5pm and I'm starving! I try drinking Water, getting another shake but like I said there have been days I gave in and ate something solid! Not unhealthy solid though! But it concerns me due to straying from my doctors orders! I applaud all who never strayed and got through it. In two more days it will be Clear liquids ONLY and I'm reading more and more to motivate me and prepare me!! Thx for allowing me to share!! I've come too far to give in now!!

Question... Anybody have severe gas/diarrhea during their pre-op?? Is this normal or should I be concerned?

I am glad that I am not alone but I am also sorry for your struggle!! You can do this!! You are so close!

I have been trying all different kinds of Protein powders and shakes. I think the variety helps.

So far I have enjoyed the following (with the unjury chocolate Splendor being my favorite):

Thank you all for suggestions as well as encouragement!! I read through these threads and I know I'm not alone!! I seriously can't be more grateful for finding this app!! It has truly brought me out of a dark and lonely space I was in after I first began this journey! I'm laughing, smiling, most of my fears have subsided! And I feel my life coming together more and more each day as I approach this surgery! Thanks!!

OK ! OK!! I admit it!!! I am a cheater!!!!!!!!!!! I am on day 9 of my 2 week pre op liquid diet. I have cheated several days. It is at night though. like around 9:00 or 10:00. I do great during the day when I am working because I am busy. I am not cheating anymore after last night. I am really disappointed in myself. This diet is NOT that difficult. I am actually doing really well; I mean I am not dying for food.... I have cheated because I have WANTED to, not HAD to. But no more. The last 2 days are clear liquid. I have lost about 5 pounds, and I know it needs to be more, so I am sticking with it until the end! I can do it!! I am strong!!!!!!!!

My surgery is Tuesday. The time has absolutely flown!!!!! I cant believe it is almost here.

Thanks for the tips... I agree, staying busy is the key.

You are not a cheater or a failure. You are human, so don't be so hard on yourself. I have faith in you. You'll do great!!!

Anyone have any other high Protein Shakes they preferred. I am collecting stuff each week so I can be ready to go when the time comes.

I like Unjury chocolate Splendor, Unjury chicken Soup, Premier Chocolate shakes, a few of the Syntrax Nectar flavors.

You all will do great! Yes this is scary and yes you may cheat, just keep in mind why you all are doing this. Each one of us is wanting different things yet the main goal is to be healthy and happy with/within ourselves.

We are all human and we mess up we just have to be prepared to try our hardest to not mess up n when we do get right back on track.

You all can do this!! I believe in everyone of you, if you couldn't you wouldn't have came this far, so don't doubt yourself now your almost there. YOU ALL GOT THIS!! ????????????☺

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
