White Stripe on Tongue Common?

Recommended Posts

So I'm about 9 days out from my surgery and I've developed this white stripe in the middle of my tongue, anyone else have this happen? I can feel a weirdness like a film almost and of course brushing doesn't help with it at all. Is there something I should be doing to get rid of this?

It's common when you are on a liquid diet. It could be thrush, which in itself isn't a big deal, but it can also just be the gunk that builds up on your toungue when you aren't chewing anything that manually scrubs your toungue everytime you eat. Get a toungue scraper from the toothbrush aisle, scrape that junk off your toungue, and that should solve it. Once you are eating real foods again, the process of solid food scraping over your toungue does the same thing for you as the toungue scraper.

That sounds like thrush. A mild yeast infection of the mouth. You may want to give the doctor a call.

Thank you both of you, I just saw my PA today (thought I was only seeing my nutritionist) for my first Post Op checkup and she said it was Thrush and wrote me a presciption. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
