Question and please go easy on me! You can't make me feel any worse than I already do, trust me! Ok, so here's my question. Will the surgeon still do the surgery if you've gained weight since approval? I actually gained the weight while waiting on approval and have worked hard to get it off this week but the scale is not moving!! Pre op is on the 17th. I'm not on a required liquid diet although I almost wish I was made to! I tried only liquids all morning and made it to 4:00 and my stomach was SCREAMING for food! Kudo's to those of you who have to do it for two weeks!!

I think they will still do the surgery? do they require you to lose weight?

Nashville. Dr. Houston at Centennial is the man and his support staff are phenomenal. I had the sleeve 7/13/15 and hit the ground running. Zero complications and down 99lbs since surgery, 174 for the year so far. I was THE WORST naysayer and was sure I'd regret it, but have had a great experience and stuck it on my employers insurance, so double win for me!

Dr. Hugh Houston is the absolute best combination of support and bluntness. His staff is wonderful, too. I'm so glad I went through them for my surgery.

I had my sleeve surgery on 6/23/15, and so far I'm down 68 since surgery and 88 total. I couldn't be happier with him and his staff. Oh....and no complications at all. His post surgery eating plan is much stricter than many I've seen on here, but it's totally worth it. I feel great.

No, as a matter of fact the insurance coordinator told me not to lose any or there was a chance I would fall below bmi and not get approved. She told me "with your insurance you can gain and they would still approve as long as I met all the other requirements" but I didn't want to gain any and through out the whole process I would lose and then gain back a pound or two but I don't know what happened after my last supervised appt. From the last appt. until I finally got approved, I gained 15 pounds!!! I guess I was stress eating but that's alot of weight to gain in a little over a month. I've managed to lose 2 pounds but I want to lose the other 13 pounds plus before my surgery. I don't know what they will say at Vandy. I want to call and ask but I don't even know who I would ask...

@deatiny_77, I am in the same boat as you as far as gaining. They told me not to lose any either but now the problem is I gained far more than I should have. Actually, they told me because of my bmi initially that it wouldn't hurt if I gained a few pounds but then I couldn't stop. i was told not to worry that I just need to now follow the eating plan giving in vandy's book.

I'm in the great state of TN. About an hour north of Knoxville. My first appointment is in two weeks. I've been to all of the dr visits, classes and support meetings with my boyfriend. He's having gastric bypass this coming Mon the 14th.

Thought I would pop in to give an update. 1 week follow up went well. I had lost 21 lbs during week 1. That was a shocker wasn't expecting so much in a week. That makes 41 lbs total lost since starting liver diet. Moved on to full liquids this week. Also bumped up my walking time. Still getting tired pretty easily but feeling great.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
