I want to hit something...and I'm not like that. Help!

Recommended Posts

I'm five days into my pre-op diet, and I am so angry all the time, I can't stand it. I feel hormonal, but I've been post-hysterectomy for several years. I'm short-tempered. The mood swings are awful. My hubby tells me that it will get better after my surgery because I won't get hungry.

I'm eating plenty of Protein. I don't know that I'm as hungry as I am just weirdly angry--or I want to cry. The only time I like how I feel is when I'm sleeping.< /p>

This just seems wrong. Please tell me it changes!!

Yes and no it changed for me. My temper shortened during the 2-week all liquid pre-op diet. I flubbed the first couple days due to traveling for work, but hit the diet hard the 10 days leading to surgery. No doubt about it, it's flipping HARD! Your frustration, temper, mood swings are all understandable. As I got closer to the surgery date, I became so focused on the surgery itself, that I feel like things mellowed out a bit. My advice: try to focus on why you are doing this, lean on your family, and come around here to vent as much as you need!

Hang in there! This to me was one of the hardest parts of the journey because of the emotional crap that comes with it.

Your husband is right it will get so much better on surgery day, just keep your eye on the prize.

Don't be surprised if you actually get air headed toward the last few days. I remember not being very clear headed and my husband yelled at me for not having my head in the game while doing our checkbook.

I yelled at him and said let me take food away from you for ten friggin days and let's see how your mind works dumb$&?!

We both started cracking up after that. He has since tried the liquid Protein diet and did not make it 12 hours. We laugh about it all the time.

You will feel better soon! Hang in there!

I know I'm fortunate that my hubby has been through it himself.

Today was better. I'm beginning to understand what has happened. I had to gain weight to qualify, as my BMI was under 35, and our insurance only does it, even with co-morbidities, above 35. To do that--after years of working hard just to lose and maintain what I have, I had to eat in ways I hadn't in a long time. Then it was boom! I had my approval and my date so close that it hit me like a ton of bricks. Even though I am careful about sugar, I'd been eating a little more than normal, and I'm probably doing withdrawls.

Not much longer.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
