Another step in the right direction and an emotional eating question

Recommended Posts

I saw my Family doc yesterday. It was a great appointment. He is behind my decision 100%! E is very supportive and very interested in giving me the support I need.

I originally had it in my head that I wanted to have this surgery as quickly as possible. But after lots of research and thoughts and prayers I want to do this the right way. I feel that the program my surgeon and my insurance have is a good program and is going to help me be successful in the long term so that I don't gain back what I loose a few years down the road.

I am excited to go down this road to improving not only my physical health but my mental Heath also.

I have already started a list of " acheavments" that I want over this adventure. My husband and I are big gamers and he is helping me come up with acheavments and rewards that are not food related.

I have also been thinking of ways to beat the mindless eating and emotional eating. Any one have any suggestions for me? I emotional eat A LOT!

It's cool that your family doctor is so supportive. Out of curiosity is he younger? I have found that older doctors have a more primitive view of bariatrics.

I am also an emotional eater (yes men do that too!) the only advice I can offer is try and be as active as you can. The more time I spend alone on the couch the more likely I am to fall back into the cycle of depression and binge eating.

Anyway I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

My doc is around 40. So not really young but not really old ether. If I come to him with research and I am ready to talk about things he is more likely to do what I want than if I come to home with no info. I had found some new studies that he had not seen and he will bring his own info also. We both make each other work towards an agreement and I love it because I learn and he is willing to learn also.

What kinds of things do you do to stay active?

Walking/hiking mostly. I also coach flag football which gets me out of the house a couple of nights a week. Just go outside and wander around, look for little projects around the house. Where I'm from we call that "piddling"

Also, 40 isn't even close to old. :P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
