That's because the people who are experiencing difficulties post the most. I started at over 400lb, was pre-diabetic. I have several chronic health conditions and severe allergies. I was literally spending most of my time trying to manage my allergies. Despite being on medication I would still have pretty nasty outbreaks. These could be anything from hives to anaphylaxis. Once even being put into a medical coma due to a bad allergic reaction. I had surgery a little over a year ago. I had the absolute easiest hospital course. I walked in recovery, tolerated all foods/drinks, didn't need pain meds, had no nausea, vomiting, etc.... I was in the hospital for 2 days per my doctor's protocol. He discharges all his patients on colace (stool softener) and omprazole (PPI for acid). Once home I tolerated all foods. I walked every day the first week home. Started using light hand weights (3 & 5 lbs) the second week home, returned to aquafit classes by week 3. I have been losing steadily. At my 2 week f/u I had lost 26 lbs. At my 6 weeks f/u I had lost another 6. After that I lost 6 -12 lbs a month pretty steadily. I work out 5 -6 days a week and feel great. I haven't been sick or in the ER in over a year. I still have my chronic conditions and allergies, but they weren't weight related and as I have loss weight and gotten stronger they are more manageable. I still have arthritis, but the exercise and weight loss keeps that in check.

This isn't a magic fix, but it has helped me get things on track. I work with my sleeve by eating right and exercising.

I think a lot of people see improvement in their health issues. I know most of mine are improving at 6 months post-op.

What you see on these boards is anecdotal, so most of the folks are going to post when they need help. Not necessarily when they are out living life.

But, you will find lots of success stories here, you just have to look.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
