I finally have my surgery date! (Nov 5th!)...so why am I so ...

EMOTIONAL?!?!? :(

I found out yesterday, I've been working on the approval since April. I've been SO anxious to get a date (insurance changing in December) and now that I have it...I keep getting all teary-eyed and actually crying when I start to think about it.

I'm not scared about the surgery or anything like that, but it's an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Does that make sense?

I remember that feeling. I had been working on my approval after a denial for over a year, when out of the blue I received a call from my surgeon's office. While I knew I was working on an approval I had already been denied plus was told I may have to appeal after a second denial. So, when I received their call I was hit with a wave of emotion. One moment I was ecstatic and over joyed, the next I was scared, crying and worried. Then some nights I would contemplate backing out followed by seeing myself in the mirror and knowing it had to be done.

Remember the closer you get to the date the more emotional you'll become. Especially if you are on a liquid pre-op diet. You'll be hungry, sad, overwhelmed, scared, happy, excited, confused and even a little sick. Don't worry it is all normal and anyone of us here can help you get through it!

Congrats on the date!

Congrats! I can totally sympathize- I also started my process in April and found out my approval/date last week- November 4th. I was in shock with joy the first week, I kept saying "I just can't believe it!" Yesterday I started feeling really emotional about it- out of nowhere! I think it is just really hitting me that it's really going to happen and my life is going to change dramatically!

I am brand new to this, just got an evaluation appointment for November 13th, Friday the 13th, is that good or bad? And I'm already having all of those emotions. I would think that everything your are feeling is perfectly normal, if you weren't I'd probably wonder. You're starting a wonderful new journey in your life. Congratulations, I am so excited for you. :D

Congrats, Cassie32104!!!! We are surgery sisters :) I agree, it comes out of nowhere and then I'm flooded with all these emotions. I am no longer anxious as I was when I was waiting for the approval I actually feel a big weight lifted off of my shoulders, funny thing is that now my husband says he is super anxious and he doesn't know why! LOL

Congrats on starting your journey, gwiggles333!!! Take that dates as soon as you can get 'em! Even if that means Friday the 13th! LOL There were days that it seemed as if I would *never* get a date much less have the surgery done and now I can honestly say I feel SO much better about the entire process. It really is not that bad, but the ADHD does *not* help

I'm ill. I called the coordinator at surgeon's office yesterday to set time for my apt on Monday and she advised she still didn't have the actual approval! WHAT!? I immediately called insurance and they confirmed that all missing items were indeed received, but they still had some questions for the surgeon. They even said they thought a Peer to Peer would help. I was devastated so I forward info to coordinator. As usual she called saying to disregard everything that insurance co said. She had confirmed that they had everything and was going to give them until next week to accept the "reconsideration" that there was no need for a PtoP yet. We just had to wait. That she still had me tentatively for the 5th, worse case scenario the 12th. Lord, deliver me. : (

Oh rats. After everything to get ready and then hear you don't actually have approval, I would be ill too. It will work out. This is just such a hard journey. I hope you have good news next week.

I too received the call at work and ran out of the building and whispered to my insurance rep that I loved her and was forever indebted ????...we grew close and I actually got her daughter a job with my company. Lol

Congratulations on getting your date! I'm so happy for you!!!! I totally understand the range of emotions. I've been overweight to obese all my life, but these past 6yrs have been the real struggle where my weight has soared even beyond what I thought possible and I absolutely cannot wait to get my surgery and help me do what I gotta do to get healthy. I've already lost 30lbs now pre op changing diet and adding in exercise, but at the rate I'm going, I will never reach onederland on my own. I'm struggling just to keep off what I've lost without having fallen off the wagon or anything. It just slows to a stop then goes full speed in reverse! I'd like to be there someday. I don't think I've been to onederland since like 4th or 5th grade. I've been close, but never made it back!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
