Deficiencies 2 years after getting the sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My name is Brittaney Ede and I am a third year nutrition student at CQUniversity Rockhampton, Queensland. I am conducting a study to determine whether nutrient deficiencies exist in Sleeve Gastrectomy patients after 2 years of having the sleeve.
As someone who has personally undergone a Sleeve Gastrectomy, I have always been curious to note whether my issues (namely Iron, Calcium and vitamina D deficiencies) are reciprocated in the greater SG population, and whether practice should be changed to offer more support to those who are struggling with their health.
As I am only one person, I need your help to gather data for my research. I have created a survey containing 22 multiple choice questions about you and your surgery, it will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
I am looking for women between the ages of 21-45 who had their surgery 6months-7 years ago. If this is you CLICK on this link to complete my survey --> https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GastricSleeveCQU
Thank you,
Brittaney

Thank you Cervidae! I am very excited to see what I can find out. After having my sleeve I went into the nutrition feild to help me understand everything a little better, but not everyone can do that, so I really would like to see if there needs to be more support out there for all bariatric surgeries!

I will be posting a summary of my findings on here when I finish my research :)

Nope, none of those shortages here.

I'm 69, at / below my weight goal for 5 months now. Blood panel is "perfect."

I take Vitamin / mineral supplement daily, + 600 mg. Calcium and D3, a probiotic, Ranitidine (150 mg. twice a day).

I'm happy to hear that your surgery has been a success and your health is fine. It's interesting to see how other people are going with their life changes. I haven't have to opportunity to talk to anyone who has had surgery (I had mine 3 years ago now), and I have only just discovered these forums as part of my research!

You might get more responses if you give the option of entering weight and height as lbs and inches rather than kg and cm. I'm too lazy to convert it myself for a voluntary survey. I haven't had my coffee yet...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
