Time to stop losing?

Recommended Posts

Had my 9 month follow up... okay actually been 9.5 months. My dietician is telling me she wants me at about 1300 calories with at least 130 grams of carbs preferably 155 grams. And she wants me to purposely get out of losing and into maintenance. I am only at 170 lbs! Still over 27 bmi. My body and my mind is not ready to stop. I am averging 1200 calories a day with 110 grams of Protein and 110 grams of carbs and lots of Water. I am losing an average of 1 to 1.5 lbs a weeks. I work out 3 to 4 times a week sometimes 5. Usually about 45 mins. I think i am doing everything exactly as i should and i feel amazing.

I just can't understand why she would purposely tell me i have to stop when i am healthy in all i do??? Feel so frustrated! My body will know when i am done... and its not time yet!

anyone else have this issue?? She says she wants me to stop losing because i might possibly regain in 10 or 15 years if i lose more....what??? You want me to stay over weight now because I MIGHT gain in 15 years????

I say you keep losing until you are at a weight you're comfortable with. I agree, it doesn't make sense to stop when you aren't ready to and you still are not comfortable with your BMI. I made my goal, but because of the 10-15 pound gain she speaks of, I'm going to try to get 10 pounds lower. Try is the key word, lol. I've been fighting the same 3 pounds for 6 weeks now, so I think my body may want me to stop now :P

Not my experience:

My cousin was told to go into maintenance at 160, she increased her intake based on what the nutritionist said, but still lost weight at an average of 0.5 lbs a week. 4 years post-op and she is in the 120's.

Not sure if maybe it's a strategy the nutritionists have?

Like I said, not my experience, but I have been grilling my family who has gotten surgery to get as much info as possible.

I think it's best to have her explain - and if she can't do that, find someone who can. Someone you will be able to trust, and hang tight with. Don't be afraid to ask questions, and lots of them - that's what you pay them for. Ask what that assumption is based on, what research has been done to verify that re-gain theory. And, when you are satisfied with the answers, please let us know, as well!!!! Thanks, in advance!

We are the same height. I know that for me 170 still puts me on the low end of plus sized. 14/16. If I got to 170 I would be pretty happy, but I think I would shoot for 150ish, so I would have a cushion as I age.

I don't understand her logic and as other people have said, make her explain it to you and show you the research. If she can't to your satisfaction, find someone else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
