13 days in and not loosing

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I'm new here. It's a great forum for sharing so thanks- I've learnt a lot. I'm Australian , living and working in Middle East. I had my surgery done on 15th sept (13 days ago) and it has been an absolute breeze. No pain, no vomiting and no lethargy. While I REALLY miss eating 'real' food I know it's only a few weeks away now so the light is at the end of the tunnel and I've probably been through the worst of it. I've had amazing friends to support me (no family - except my son -single mum) and the journey so far has been fine. What I would like to ask however, is about weight loss. In the first 7 days I lost 5 kgs (11pounds) But in the last 6 days I've lost next to nothing. Should I be concerned??? Thanks in advance for your support.

@@australian marie - NO. It is probably a combination of a couple of things - fluids your body is still holding onto post- surgery and your body adjusting to its new "normal".

Stay the course and OFF the scale. You are probably also headed towards the dreaded 3 week stall (they happen), so again...stay the course and OFF the scale :D

What you are experiencing is completely normal and part of the process. Just focus on getting in your Protein and Fluid and, as was recommended above, stay off the scale. It will drive you crazy.

By the way, if you haven't done so yet, now would be a good time to take your measurements. You will find that when the scale seems to be stuck, you may still be losing inches in the U.S. (or centimeters in the rest of the world).

Best of luck and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thanks so much for your advise. I hear you but unfortunately I'm only up to day 13 and haven't lost for a week - which is still a way from the dreaded 3 week stall. Anyway- I'll keep on keeping on. ????????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
