Elton John to Toys in the Attic at age 14

Recommended Posts

My favorite interest in my life is music.

In 1974 at age 14 I had been trying to find my misic path with Stevie Wonder and had discovered Elton John.

When my boyfreind brought over Aerosmith's "TOYS IN THE ATTIC",

it changed my life. This was an 8 track of "Toys" too. LOL

Please share with me an example of what you had been listening to then what knocked you over .

I would love to read any stories about your seeing the light in your music tastes.

I have "Toys in the Attic" in my ipod 30 years later!!

Rock on,

edie

This kind of thing always interests me as well, Edie. When I was 11 years old I heard "She Loves You" by the Beatles and it was electrifying! I turned from a little kid into a teeny bopper instantly.

There are songs that I fell in love with and I can usually remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard them. Life changing ones? Offhand I can think of the first time I heard "How Soon Is Now" by the Smiths, the duet from Bizet's "The Pearl Fishers" and the first time I heard Clifton Chenier.

I'm currently alternately working and camping up at the lake with a bunch of teenagers. Our first night out one of the boys was laying out in the dark with the headphones, listening to some music my 14 year old had given him, and looking at the stars. He called out to me "Devana, I'm listening to the Doors for the first time." I told him that he'll remember this forever, looking at the stars and listening to the Doors. About half an hour later he called over and said "Yes, I'll definitely remember this forever." So cool.

The first album from The Smiths changed my life. I never knew music could sound like that. Years later, I am still obsessed with them and I just saw Morrissey in concert a few days ago -- he's still amazing.

(Toys in the Attic is an awesome album, by the way)

I desperately love Aerosmith too. I was 15 and my mom and dad got me the greatest hits cd to go with my new cd player (was a big deal 10 years ago). Steven Tyler spoke to me and I've been in this love affair ever since, can I say it was one particular song? I doubt it, as soon as I type one in, I will think of another. I have lost boyfriends because they couldn't handle my devotion for Aerosmith (it's a five-guy band, intimidating for a lesser man, i suppose). Anyways, my now-husband was a then-supporter of my infatuation. Since I have been married, my love for Aerosmith has evolved enough to allow other bands and men in, Johnny Cash, anyone? But it took a good manly husband's "whatever floats your boat" attitude. I love Eric with all my heart now, but Steven will always be my first crush.

I still am interested in hearing some inspirations stories because I love music.

Another milestone in my music life was when I heard Delirious (sp?) by Prince. Then I saw a picture and I have been in love with his since . I mean in love with him. My hubby is even jealous. This is sort of x rated but I wanted to put Prince when we were getting "busy" and hubby said no F****** way because you will be thinking of him. He knows me.

I must admit that porn music played a big part in my life when I was 14...

*snigger*

but seriously, Listening to "Things Behind the Sun" when I was 15, changed my view of myself and my perspective of my life. the lyric:

"...Don't be shy you learn to fly

And see the sun when day is done

If only you see

Just what you are beneath a star

That came to stay one rainy day

In autumn for free

Yes, be what you'll be...."

Helped me get over worrying what other people thought of me. Much, Much earlier than my peers to be sure.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
