Hi...I would be a self pay, but do have medical insurance(weight loss exclusion). Has anyone had problems with their lap band and filed insurance claims against their insurance that wouldn't pay for surgery. Will they pay for any of the problems you might have?:P

I have the same question. I'm so glad you asked it. Let's hope we get some responses!!

If it is an emergency situation they have to pay. For example, if you had an erosion, they would have to pay to take it out. But, they would not pay to put another one in!!

My insurance policy states that they will not cover complications of an excluded or not covered proceedure. This has been the big concern for me as a self-pay, if they can refuse to pay for something years down the road simply by saying that it was a result of an excluded preceedure.

I am a self-pay, too. To be honest, I have not thought about this-I tend to be optimistic. During my May 31 surgery, we found that I had a hiatal (?) hernia. My insurance paid for all things associated with that part of the surgical procedure. I do know that I would not go back, no matter what. It has been wonderful so far-even though I have a long way to go.

I've been thinking about this too.... but in the end I don't think that I can worry about it. I'd like to think that I will have less health problems down the road and that the big insurance company shouldn't scare me away from following what I think is right for me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
