Silly question - appendix surgery anything like sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I know sleeve will be different all together but I have not had much experience with surgery. I did have my appendix taken out and wonder a few things?

Is it similar in the sense that I went to sleep fast and woke up like nothing happened (meaning fast)?

If I recovered well from that could that indicate an easier recovery from gastric sleeve? (I do know sleeve will be harder just trying to gauge is all)

This may be a very silly question but figured I would ask.

Never had my appendix removed, but I have had multiple surgeries. Yes you go to sleep and wake when it done, but that's the only comparison I'd make.

My husband had complications with his appendectomy. He kept throwing up so they had to but in an NG tube. He had gas pains but refused to walk so he was in the hospital 4 days. So walk walk walk. I had my gallbladder taken out AND my lung collapsed but I still walked every hour on the hour while I was awake.

The most important comparison is how you react to anesthesia. I've had 12 surgeries and never had complications from anesthesia. I've had several abdominal surgeries and my sleeve was easy peasy. Now shoulder surgery, well that just downright sucked!

I'm sure you'll do great.

How are you? I was also sleeved on the 29th.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
