Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. My name is April and I live in Florida. I am a 40-year-old mother to 3. I made the tough decision to proceed with the laparoscopic gastric sleeve. I elected to pay for my surgery as self-pay. I found a great doctor in Boca Raton, FL. The surgery is all-inclusive so that was a bonus. I opted for this route because I didn't want anymore hoops than I've dealt with during my 40 years. No 3, 6, 12 month structured diet which I've done and then some all on my own. No psych eval which was fricken awesome. So October 2, 2015 starts my rebirth. I am currently on my 2 week diet and have started actually vomiting from the shakes. Thank goodness my doctor's office said I could have 4 oz of grilled chicken and steamed veggies for the first week. I need ideas because the shakes taste good but they just sit in my stomach until I get sick. Anyhoo...hello!

Are yu using Protein Powder or the ready made? The Protein powder gagged me. I finally found Premier Protein drinks and they are very smooth and I have done well with them. They are 11 oz each with 30 g of protein and only 160 calories. You can gt them at Sam's Club and Cosco. Probbly at Walmart, too.

20 grams. Are the shakes the only choice? What about broths?

I couldn't stomach the ready made shakes and found the powders ones much better and still love them.

I'm afraid it can be a bit of trial and error!

Congratulations on the surgery date and welcome to the forums :D

I used the GNC ready to drink they fall in the guidelines of carbs sugar calories etc I was told by dr I liked the chocolate the best or would mix 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 van and same with strawberry and vanilla or added a small amount of skim milk with it like1/2 chocolate and part milk was only one I could stand they aren't cheap though

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
